Re: How to check the parking brake switch?

I appreciate the feedback. Have an FSM in my lap now. Just found reference in book to ABS system's ability to turn on the brake light.

The next few pages references a list of ABS diagnostic...

How to check the parking brake switch?

New rotors, new pads, checked fluid, checked for leaks. Brakes work fine, and Brake Warning Light is STILL on (was on before brake job; ABS too, but that's a separate issue).

How exactly does one...

Brake Job: Break-in Procedure needed

1997 SL2, 250k miles

I would be grateful if someone would point me in the direction of a protocol or step-by-step procedure for breaking in a new set of rotors/pads.

4 new rotors (white box,...

Re: Replace outer control arm bushing only?

1997 SL2, 250k miles.

These photos are from the passenger side front. The top red ellipse is what I referred to as the "tie rod end bushing." I may not have used the correct terminology. This...

Re: Replace outer control arm bushing only?

Upon further inspection, the tie rod end bushings are also in sad shape. Same question for those bushings as well.

FSM doesn't say anything about replacing bushings...only about replacing the...

Replace outer control arm bushing only?

Can or should this be done?

In process of brake job, noticed that the lower control arm bushing (outer bushing on ball joint at connection steering knuckle...do I have this language right?) is...

Re: Test ABS relay/module?

By the way, anything I could look for on ABS side when wheels are off? You mentioned wheel speed sensor. I am not sure what that looks like.

Re: Test ABS relay/module?

I'll pull wheels tomorrow and inspect brakes. If I need to change pads/rotors (probably do...it's been a while), I'll be sure to pull some brake fluid out so it doesn't overflow. I'll report back. ...

Re: Test ABS relay/module?

Brand new sealed bottle of DOT 3. Added and test drove. Light (both) still on. Brakes still function. Brake pedal does not feel any different than before.

Would brake light register on OBDII...

Test ABS relay/module?

1997 SL2, 250k miles/

ABS Light is on. All fuses in engine bay box related to brake system and ABS are good. Small Grey ABS box in engine bay fuse box (is this a relay? a module of sorts?) has...

Re: '97 SL2 Project

That's awesome! Nice diagnosis write up too.

I'm curious. I've done brakes on my Saturns before; those jobs were only pads and rotors. I never thought to replace guide pins and boots. What...

Re: '97 SL2 Project

When you say that the downpipe is welded to the cat con, do you mean that there is one section of the exhaust system between the exhaust manifold flange and the flange ahead of the resonator? This...

It'll be here Wednesday late, so I'm betting it'll be Friday/Saturday before I get around to it. But, yeah...I'll let y'all know and post pictures.

Re: Need Cat Con replacement - 97 SL2

Went to Bosal site. Have picture of exact part and bolt pattern for flange seems to match, so I'm getting it. If I post back, it'll be because it didn't fit. I appreciate the discussion today.

Re: Need Cat Con replacement - 97 SL2

What is the stuff smeared into the seam where the cat-con and the flex pipe join? Does it hold up over time?

Need Cat Con replacement - 97 SL2

I bought a Magnaflow 23450 but returned it. The flange that bolts to the exhaust manifold was turned 60-degrees when welded on so it would not bolt up to my 97 SL2.

I need a recommendation for...

Re: Input Shaft Nut work - how can I not mess up alignment

Should I also loosen the passenger side bolts a little before lowering driver's side? Or does it matter?
