Re: 19999 SW1 temp gauge behaving oddly after radiator replacement

While you are in there anyway, check the line that dumps into the back of the reservoir for a solid flow stream. It can be done with the line on the reservoir, but I've found that taking it off it...

Re: Seems as if this happened a couple of years ago (coolant level light content)

I don't think it's at all uncommon when the coolant level is just a little low. I have experienced the same when I had a nicked drain O-ring on my radiator. If I let the level drop without topping...

Re: Spark plug ceramic tip broken in engine

You can use quite a bit of oil and have the car still run well. As for oil use, a few trips made me realize that most likely much of my oil consumption is from the valve guide seals, not through the...

Re: SL2 Normal Engine Temperature

Actually, original owners have verified for years that the "normal" for the pre-96 cars was more in the 3/8 range due to cooler thermostats from the factory. Though the ones with the higher temps...

Re: Extinct Car Day at Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Mass 2017

I'm glad you guys make it to represent the brand. It sounds like a good time. I wish I could justify the time to make it up one of these years, but don't know if it's in the cards.

Re: 97 Saturn Sl hissing when releasing gas pedal

Ha! I had mine slightly unseated once after getting stuck in a rain storm doing maintenance. In my case I could only hear it when turning the car off, but it took two times looking before I noticed...

Re: Spark plug ceramic tip broken in engine

For a short period of time used, that shows that a lot of oil is being tossed at that #3 plug. You can see in that photo that the oil is being burned to the ceramic, and unless it's much wetter than...

Re: 1994 SL2 DOHC Overheating... HELP!!!!

That photo is the one that shipped in the car from the factory. Several members here with various years have confirmed the same was in their cars from the factory.

As for finding one, might be...

Re: 98 SL fouling spark plugs.

Don't waste your time with the non fouler adapters. They can help stop fouling, but will do it by creating misfires from the plugs being moved away from the combustion chamber.

Not much you can...

There is no controversy for me on the original...

Re: Sudden mileage reduction on 2002 SL2

For the most part, if you are getting less than 30 MPG with an S Series, something is wrong. I'd suggest tune up basics before anything else. Plugs, check wires, check for intake or exhaust...

Re: 1994 SL2 DOHC Overheating... HELP!!!!

The large gauge sweep in the earlier cars was changed for the later cars. They experience essentially the same temp swings, but the gauges were changed to show less movement.

1995 and prior move...

Re: Using a lot of oil

Let's face facts people. All the hand waving in the world doesn't prove a thing, and every oil unless tightly controlled under specific conditions is a compromise, including (probably even more so)...

Re: Oil Consumption / Burn (Looking for a Band-Aid)

For the band aid, about the only thing worth trying is possibly a piston soak. MMO, Chem Dip, Kreen, GM Piston and Ring Cleaner, and probably a couple others have been tried by various forum...

Re: '01 SL1 Shifting / Voltage Issue

I'd suspect that due to changes in engine temp as you tested, reaching the lower idle of being more warmed up along with the load of being in drive was the primary cause for the lower voltage...

Re: 1996SL11.9L's 2002 SL1

That AC compressor can really eat some efficiency on such a light and low powered car. It seems even worse when it's so hot that the cars are doggy without AC on.

As for plugs, I think I'll...

Re: 1996SL11.9L's 2002 SL1

That's in line with what I lose in MPG with the AC. All highway slightly lower maybe, all in town more MPG loss. Running that compressor really sucks up some low rev torque.

Now and then...

Re: New OEM EGR fixed SL1 Hesitation Problem for a Day

Based on the results of the original EGR block test, I'd block the EGR again.

Though a pre-cat can often be a cause of excess flow, aftermarket regular cat or other exhaust restrictions could do...

Re: Fail safe thermostat?

You might want to post part numbers and/or photos of the units you are having issues with. If it's a trend other users will know to stay away.

As for quality, most users buy their stuff at FLAPS...

I took your statement as nothing other than an inquiry, and completely agree with any recommendation of "move away from something that you have failures with" type of thought.

It just amazes...

Re: New speakers---do I need a new receiver too?

Some factory head units sound fairly good with better speakers, some don't. Depends on the head unit and speakers your car comes with obviously.

If you already want or need new speakers, there is...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

All the good deals in this area seem to be long gone. For what most S Series cars are asking you can get something more modern with the same miles on it, and often in a better car.

If it is a...
