Fuel gauge failure and cure on a 2.4

I had a problem with my elderly mother's 2007 Saturn Ion 3 w/2.4L engine. She drives the Ion very infrequently, and only has 22k km on it in 7 years driving. I have it for the winter, and the fuel...

Re: Good Bye to all my Astra friends

A dealer is not required to do anything they don't want to do. The dealer is not a part of the manufacturer's business. They are independent, separately owned entities.

That being said, part of...

Re: Need procedure for changing timing belt/idler; adjusting valves

No.
Had four American Ecotecs though. Never had to replace any timing chains. They're not a maintenance item. Your belt is.

Re: Need procedure for changing timing belt/idler; adjusting valves

How ironic that when I brought this very topic up over a year ago, I was scorned and ridiculed for challenging the high cost of valve and belt maintenance.
To marx404, I told you so. Better start...

Re: 5qt oil overfill?!

Speaking of Fumoto's I have two brand new F107's in their unopened packages for sale. $20 each including shipping. What's not to like about that?
PM me if interested.

Re: 5W20 vs. 5W30

Not necessarily. The answer could be yes. If you drive the car hard under high ambient heat conditions the oil temp will rise considerably. Thin oil is less viscous than thick oil. Your oil pump will...

Re: What is the worst Saturn ever made?

The worst? The 1st generation Vue. Between the CVT and the 3L Vauxhall V6, those things were a servicing and reliability nightmare.

Re: Engine compartment cleaning

I would never use a pressure washer on an automotive engine. You do not want to force water into an electrical connection or sensor that was designed to be water tight. You'd be asking for nothing...

Re: Does this oil filter look normal?

There is only one way to install the filter correctly. That involves snapping the tabbed end of the filter into the cap until it clicks in, then lubing the o-ring on the on the bottom of the filter,...

Not arguing, just having some fun with each other. Remember, this is the Internet. Take NOTHING seriously.

Re: Does this oil filter look normal?

That's the box from the new filter you just installed, not from the off brand filter you just removed. You can try to pull the wool over our experienced eyes, but we don't fall for your slight of...

Re: Does this oil filter look normal?

That's not a PF456G or PF457G AC/Delco filter. That's why it's not crushed.
Neighbour is using some other brand of filter. I can only speak for AC/Delco, which is all I use. You can't overtighten...

Re: engine light after replacing coil and ignition module

You have sure changed your diagnostic advice in the last year. You used to suggest changing everything out until the problem disappeared. Common sense does prevail.

Re: Problem with shocks (?) in cold weather

My mother's '07 Ion3 does the same thing, my '08 Cobalt does it, and my sister's '09 Cobalt does it. Obviously, it's a part/design issue. My mother had the bushings replaced. I haven't yet. I had the...

Re: Does this oil filter look normal?

The vertical squeezing or compression of the pleated filter element is 100% normal. In the 9 years I've been changing Ecotec filters every one of them comes out squeezed like that.

Re: Warranty work?

Not so. Any dealer can decline to do any warranty work if they so choose. They are independent businesses that are NOT run by GM. They may lose their GM franchise because of it, but they do not have...

Re: Parts shortage can keep you out of your Saturn for weeks to come.

This may have been true 5 years ago.
If you think GM now cares about its Saturn customers then I want some of what you're smoking.

Re: Parts shortage can keep you out of your Saturn for weeks to come.

Sorry, but this is the risk you take buying a rebadged import through a small volume dealer network that has since acquiesced into obsolescence. If you had been reading these forums for the last...

Re: First Oil Change

Again, back in the 70's and until the early 80's engine and bearing seals were only designed with dino oil in mind. With the advent of synthetics, seals were redesigned to accommodate the different...

Re: First Oil Change

Old wive's tale based on oil and technology from the 70's. If synthetic was bad for a new engine, manufacturers would specifically warn against using it.
