Re: Valve Body Issues (I've searched)

Well, if you don't have line-pressure, then R would have trouble engaging as well as the forward gears. It takes high pressure to engage the clutches and servo hard enough to get that R "slam". I...

Re: Valve Body Issues (I've searched)

I'm a little confused about which of those symptoms are from before the VB and fluid change, and which are from after. However, you should be able to tell where that "new" VB came from. Frankly,...

Re: Replaced steering column, accessories OK but no crank?

OP, why do you think these two problems (starting and HVAC) are unrelated? They both may trace back to the ignition switch/circuit.

Re: Fuel line rupturing- Overpressure???

Again, pictures of the "pressure ruptures" may give some good clues. It is unlikely that the FP can develop enough pressure, under any circumstances (that use just the stock 12V auto electrical...

Re: Are SKF Bearings Made In Spain Acceptable?

Keep in mind that Timken developed the first tapered-roller bearings, and for a long time they were the only manufacturer of them; so many people call taper-rollers "timken" even if they aren't a...

Re: How to tell if wheel bearing is bad?

I never joined this thread when it was active, but here are a couple of late comments:

Bearings might last for a long time (thousands of miles) after noise is detected, it all depends on what in...

Re: Antifreeze low dash warning...

Are you sure that jumpering will turn off the light? It has been a while, but I seem to recall that jumpering on one of mine ('94/95) set an "out of range" type code. I had to use a low-value...

Re: Testing speedometer or vss circuit Issue?

I'll ask again... is this a manual trans or automatic trans? If you answered previously, I didn't find it; my apologies.

You can't conclude the VSS is OK because the car can be driven; especially...

Re: 2000 SL2 problems

I can't advise much on how "hard" it is, that all depends on your skill and patience. It can be done with the engine in the car, just pulling the head, but access to some things is poor; especially...

Re: Testing speedometer or vss circuit Issue?

Maybe off-topic, but the images at the beginning of this thread change every time I open it! None so far pertain to the VSS/speedo, probably not even Saturn.

Re: Testing speedometer or vss circuit Issue?

Wow, this thread started out "in the weeds"! Images of a V-8 and what looks like valve rockers/lifters of something else? Those have nothing to do with this Saturn VSS/speedo problem.

Don't...

Re: SL1 TAAT transmission mystery

Get a gauge with 1/8" NPT connection, not 1/4". That will save you having to buy any extra fittings. McMaster has a suitable 2" dial gauge for about $10, so there is the "high price" you should be...

Re: SL1 TAAT transmission mystery

Yes, well... I am throwing a couple of ropes (live-data and LP gauge) down that "rabbit hole" for you, it's your choice about whether to grab hold of one.

Before you buy a new VSS to throw at it,...

Re: 2000 SL2 problems

Hot or cold makes no significant difference on compression readings. Yes, just remove the injector and ignition fuses. Also, be sure to hold the throttle wide-open when cranking to take...

Re: SL1 TAAT transmission mystery

Sure, a bad PCM or VB is possible, as well as still bad wiring. I think a bad PCM is least likely; a bad VB most likely.

Quite a while ago I suggested looking at line pressure with a gauge and...

Re: 2000 SL2 problems

Oh, I forgot to say...

Put aside the OBD2 "reader", if it only reads codes, and use something that will display live-data. That will save a lot of guessing and needless parts-swapping.

Re: 2000 SL2 problems

Bubbling in the coolant? The mpg has changed? Take compression readings before throwing any more parts at it. I also recommend doing a "block test" that involves sucking vapor in the cooling...

Re: Exhaust manifold flange studs

Those are M8 x 1.25

However, I gotta ask... did they save the threads in the manifold flange? I'm confused because you said they installed "bolts" and that would require a clearance hole in the...

Re: Automatic Trans Issue

I understand, but at the beginning of this thread the OP seemed to have LP that was too high (harsh shifting). A gauge could confirm that, so that we know something is not letting the LP solenoid do...

Re: Automatic Trans Issue

Has LP been checked at all with a gauge? Use a long hose, so you can observe LP while driving; and compare it to "commanded pressure" in live-data.

Re: Engine Lacks Power HELP!

Has the engine performance changed since 35 days/1200 miles ago? If so, then "yes", check compression again.

Re: Help!!!! I lost my keys!!!!

What year? It may help to know if this has any anti-theft crap involved with the lock. Call a lock-smith or dig the cylinder out with a grinder/drill/whatever. Yeah, both of those ain't cheap or...

"...when I step on gas it does nothing,..."

Literally "nothing"? No change in sound or rpm, no misfire vibration, not spitting into the intake or farting into the exhaust? Have you tried opening...

Re: Replaced steering column, accessories OK but no crank?

Good, you already have traced it back in the circuit. If you have 12V supply to a switch, but no voltage at the switched (output) terminal then... yes, either both switches are bad or the mechanical...
