Re: Hwy speed: service light, then battery light, then red engine light

As they say in South Carolina where I used to live, "You're fine!" This is an incredibly helpful forum and I'm thrilled that everyone is willing to devote so much time to others' problems. Thanks to...

Re: Hwy speed: service light, then battery light, then red engine light

My mechanic also came to the conclusion that the engine probably died as others have stated here, but that I didn't notice because of the other lights and the radio playing. As mentioned earlier,...

The oil pressure light...

Also, in one of the posts above it was mentioned that I shouldn't worry as long as there is oil on the dipstick. But I thought you could have a good oil level and still...

Re: Hwy speed: service light, then battery light, then red engine light

Just got off the phone with the mechanic - he said it's showing a million codes related to data, so OldNuc, your idea seems to be right (as usual! ;) ). The mechanic also said it's now running like...

Re: Hwy speed: service light, then battery light, then red engine light

Thanks for the quick replies!

If it's the BCM, where's the best place to get one? I saw a remanufactured one on Rock Auto.

If it's the ignition switch turning off, wouldn't all of the dash...

Hwy speed: service light, then battery light, then red engine light

I was doing about 70 mph last night and had just pulled off onto my exit when the service engine light came on, immediately followed by the battery light, which was immediately followed by the red...

Re: ABS light stays on and no power to radio

Just to follow up - it turns out it was a badly made connection at the alternator. My mechanic fixed it at no charge, which was a nice break. There have been a few other issues I have found that...

ABS light stays on and no power to radio

I picked my 2001 SL2 manual transmission up from the shop after having the cracked intake manifold replaced. The ABS light came on and stayed on, so I went back and the mechanic told me the code...

Highmile,

You're always an inspiration, congratulations on the new number! I've driven to the moon and am now on the way back at 270k, still enjoying the ride, hope to reach your numbers. (If I...

Dragging feeling from front end in reverse

My 2001 SL2 feels like something is dragging or grinding in the passenger front end when I put it in reverse. It feels the same way it would if you were trying to back up with the emergency brake...

After changing ECTS, gen 3 temp gauge at 1/2, is this okay

I recently had the ECTS and connector changed as the car was boiling over before reaching halfway on the temp gauge. Now the temp gauge stays at 1/2 at normal operating temp, and the fan kicks on at...

Boiling over from tank, gauge moving up but not at halfway point

Is there a preferred brand of coolant tank pressure cap, because I think the one I recently replaced may be junk.

In stalled traffic, steam comes out of the coolant tank, and I've had to add a...

Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

Just hit 250k miles tonight, original owner! I had the engine rebuilt at 210k miles due to low compression and oil use. The rebuild was badly done by the shop (they gave me all my money back), so I...

Re: Cornering capabilities

I love the way my Saturn corners. I live in a rural hilly area so there are lots of nice highway turns, and one of my greatest driving pleasures is to have some moron in a jacked up truck (of which...

Re: Ran out of gas - time for a new fuel filter?

Thanks for the really quick reply! I'm happy to say that after that first few rough minutes, she's running fine and started up again with no problems.

Ran out of gas - time for a new fuel filter?

I was reminded it what it was like to be 16 again (I'm 57!), since I stupidly ran out of gas. But I know that my Saturn loves me because it happened after I parked at a drugstore half a block away...

Re: P0420 and Low Mileage

It turned out it was the catalytic converter after all. There was no exhaust leak and the O2 sensor checked out fine. The car was making a slight rattling sound, and according to the muffler shop...

Re: P0420 and Low Mileage

Thanks, all, for the replies. I can at least rule out the pre-cat as it was rodded out during one of the recent engine overhauls, or maybe when the downpipe and cat were replaced, I forget exactly....
