Re: Wrench size for brake line

Hey just read this... looks like I do have a Harbor Freight nearby.

I need a line wrench for the brake line fitting, maybe I'll pick up a few, though I'd prefer to just grab the one size that I...

Re: Wrench size for brake line

Ah okay.

I have almost every tool I need for regular maintenance, but this is the first time I've needed to take off the brake fluid line.

I'd love to buy whole sets of tools but I live in the...

Re: Wrench size for brake line

Thanks,
I'm talking about taking the brake line off the wheel cylinder for the rear drum brakes. I need to replace the cylinders but don't think I have the right size wrench to remove the brake...

Wrench size for brake line

Hi all,
Replacing the wheel cylinders soon and need to pick up a wrench for taking off the brake line.

I have not had any chance to take off a tire and see what size wrench I need. Would any of...

Re: I need a good trailer hitch for my Ion

I got one from U-Haul and while it has worked great for towing trailers, it does sit very close to the muffler. In fact, the muffler occasionally touches the hitch and makes a loud rattling sound.

Re: Stripped both rear brake bleeder valves

that picture is not from MY car, that's just an image I found on google to try to show the part I was talking about.

As far as I can tell, nothing is wrong with the cylinders on mine. I just...

Re: Stripped both rear brake bleeder valves

Ah... well, I believe my cylinders are fine.

To clarify, this is the piece that I've stripped... as in, a wrench can't grab on to the corners of the surface anymore. Is this what you guys are...

Re: Stripped both rear brake bleeder valves

Yeah I hear you... I only used a small box wrench in this case because I've seen it used in almost every "how to change brake fluid" video on youtube, and it worked fine on the front brakes... it was...

Re: Stripped both rear brake bleeder valves

It was the hex corners on the outside... I'll try the vicegrips suggestion, though if memory serves the whole thing was pretty stuck and didn't offer much room for grips.

Why do you recommend new...

Stripped both rear brake bleeder valves

When I was doing my brake fluid change (the first time I'd done it since buying the car used), I found both rear bleeder valves to be extremely malleable. They stripped almost instantly despite...

Re: Ion rear bumper cover removal?

Smed,

I don't think you specified if you have a Coupe or Sedan... but I recently went near-crazy trying to take of my rear bumper cover from my Quad Coupe.

What the manuals DON'T tell you... is...

Re: Blinker doesn't work, bulb is brand new

Hi, didn't want to leave my thread unanswered.

I did more investigating and found something obvious that I wish I'd noticed months ago...

I took out the bulb and indeed I found black burnt...

Blinker doesn't work, bulb is brand new

Been driving without a front-passenger side blinker for half a year now.

Every other blinker works... both rear, and the front-driver side all work.

The bulb is fine, I've replaced it 3 or 4...

Turn signal doesn't work, but bulb is good

Have an urgent problem.

My front right turn signal does not work (not in hazard mode either), but the bulb is good and does turn on with the other lights, it just doesn't blink.

When I turn on...

Re: Removing bumper on 05 Quad Coupe

Ahh sideways...I was pulling towards the rear, thought the whole thing would slide out... I'll try pulling each side away sideways.

Thanks a bunch, the manual didn't make it sound obvious.

Re: Removing bumper on 05 Quad Coupe

Yeah sorry, meant the cover.

Hmm how much force does it take to unclip? I removed every bolt and fastener I could find, so maybe the clips were the last thing I was hung up on.

I was pulling...

Removing bumper on 05 Quad Coupe

I followed my Haynes manual, took out the wheel well bolts and everything attaching the bumper under the trunk, but it STILL feels caught on something.

I'm at the point where I should be able to...

Re: Capacity and plug gap question

Just wanted to point out, 2006_Ion2's thread says the gap is 0,043, and not to change the gap if using iridium... since I'm using the delco 41105's, which are pre-gapped to 0.043, I'll leave them as...

Capacity and plug gap question

Doing some 100k mile maintenance, have two questions:

1. Haynes manual says gap is 0.045, official manual doesn't seem to list it (or I can't seem to find it). Ordered ACDelco 41-105's, which are...

Most uncomfortable seats in the world

I absolutely love my Ion, but unfortauntely, driving it has been synonymous with back pain for the past year or so.

Now, I'm prone to back pain anyway, I have an inflamed joint in my lower back...

Re: ATF change question

Yeah, I've read that the transmissions are different... still need to know about whether I need to change the gasket/filter on mine though, or if I just do a drain and fill.

ATF change question

Hi, doing the first ATF change on my Ion, about 96k miles.

1. Does it matter which brand Dex 6 I use? I'll try to grab the GM labeled but if it doesn't matter, I'll get Mobil 1.

2. Is it just...

Re: Rear tires severely worn on inside (shocks?)

Thanks, MeanGreen

Should I replace the springs as well? I'd like to keep costs down for this repair, so I'll skip the springs if I can.

Also I'm looking at some ~$30 dollar KYB shocks on...

Hi all, failed inspection today (was expected to) but got a good look at my rear tires and was pretty surprised at just how bad the wear was on the insides...we're talking down to the last layer of...

Thanks a bunch fdryer for taking the time to write that up =)
