Re: Extinct Car Day at Larz Anderson Museum 2019

I am unfortunately down to 1 saturn, my brother cannot make it with his 97 due to work and school, and out 98 is not quite ready for a long haul trip.

Re: Extinct Car Day at Larz Anderson Museum 2019

I will be attending! Just got 4 new shoes on the 95 and changed the oil. Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Re: Thermal Exhaust

I have the thermal installed on my 95 Sl2. Will be bringing it to the show. Very good quality exhaust, still shiny after 6 months.

Re: What's the " best" year S-series?

My 1995 has death kill in it, had zero issues so far and its been about 100k miles and at least 8 years according to the PO's records. I just change it every year or so.

Re: What's the " best" year S-series?

I would say for looks and features that 1995 is the best year. Still has OBD1 which allows for less strict emissions controls, and has the updated dash in the old chassis.

Re: Wont shift/ go over 2500 rpm

Couldnt it be poor line pressure from the line pressure bore being worn out? Slipping trans because of that?

Re: Do our autos hold up to high RPMs?

I wind my 1995 Sl2 out, and it has 172k on the engine. I always change the oil at or before 3k, and run either semi synthetic or full synthetic. Burns a half a quart or so every thousand miles, and...

Re: 1994 saturn sl dohc automatic grinding sound?

I would say it is a wheel bearing. Jack it up and check them out.

Re: Bonehead Saturn Craigslist find of the day

I think I will take a look. I need to find a place to store it, and I have low funds since I am a college student (sigh). But, it is dirt cheap and if I plan to keep my saturn forever, this would be...

Re: Road Trip

Yes it is a seat, but I like when my car interior matches and looks the way that it came. From what I can tell, the seat foam is the same for 1993-1995 Sl2 and SW2's. SC2's appear to have taller...

Road Trip

Hello all,
My brother and I (pgagl) are heading up from Eastern PA to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are going to be passing through Western PA, Northern OH, and of course the entire state of...

Re: RPM at speed? Auto transmission

Our 1999 Sl2 was about 3k at 70mph with the TAAT auto.
If you had a manual you could swap the 5th gear set from a mp2 trans (found on SOHC models), and that brings the rpms down to about 2300 at...

Re: 99 SL2 rebuild thread

I broke a drag link this winter, the passenger side one. Made a ruckus as it was bouncing around and hitting the lateral links. Found a used one and also bought another set to rebush when I went over...

94 was the first year of the current sub frame design, I believe.

Re: Manual Steering Rack

It definitely different. A strong one arm or two arms is required when taking turns around 5-10 mph, but then the rest is manageable with just one arm.
I also did note that on some curvy roads, it...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

I ended up using some small 1"x2" brass blocks. I put it on the actual rack part (where the pinion would go) and the back side of the shaft, using the rack as a flat spot. I was able to get the inner...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

It is out of the vehicle, I just do not have the proper vice pads to not destroy the shaft

Re: Manual Steering Rack

Richpin does not seem to clamp the rod itself down, would I also be safe if I just carefully and slowly applied pressure with the actual rack clamped down?

Re: Manual Steering Rack

I watched it but I am still unsure of how to hold the rack and pinion from moving while I have it clamped in the vice. I do not want to nick the shaft, but I also do not want to load up the pinion...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

The do hold themselves up, but are extremely pitted on the outside of the boot, and I highly doubt the tie rod ends will come off without a good fight. I figured it is safer to replace them.

It...

Re: An SC driver in Raleigh, NC likes to haul ass!

The fastest I had my old 1994 Sl2 up to was 114, speed limiter kicked in. The fastest I had my 1995 Sl2 up to was 110, but then I decided to calm down as I saw a pair of tail lights a mile or so...
