Re: Maintenance Questions at 130,000km

Yes, a summary or guide of which shocks/struts you bought would be amazing! I am nearing that project very soon.

Re: Maintenance Questions at 130,000km

Welcome!

I haven't done shocks yet either, still researching which ones to buy. Here's a good thread on that:

Re: Problem areas to look for when buying an Astra

I've never heard of the dieseling issue due to cam wear. In fact I haven't seen anything on this forum about camshaft wear. Some folks get the cam phaser solenoid issue, where the inlet screens get...

Re: 2008 Astra XE Starting Issue

Is it the original alternator? Mine had similar starting issues when the alternator was going bad last year around 100k miles. When the Astra's battery is low (from the alternator not fully charging...

Re: Not Able to Initiate TPMS Relearn

Did you replace the sensors or transfer the old ones from the old tires? If they are still original sensors, they are probably out of battery. Mine will periodically do that, maybe a couple times a...

Re: Pulling slightly right

I had a tire issue last year that seemed impossible to diagnose. The car pulled slightly to one side and drove me crazy. I noticed it more while accelerating, but it was definitely always there at...

Re: Any help would be great

Yeah very weird. Have you lent it out to anyone who maybe didn't treat it so nicely? I've raced, auto-crossed, and abused my Astra and it still shifts like normal after more than double your mileage.

Re: Any help would be great

Popping out of gear usually means synchros are worn or the fluid might be contaminated. Both are very unusual for such low miles. Are you the original owner since new? Worn synchros at such low...

Good fix, and good to know in case it happens to us. Thanks for following up.

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

My sway bar links are fine after 110k miles on original shocks too. No clunks.

I still don't see how you could be having so many issues at such low mileage. This car is very simple. Was yours in...

Re: Error code P2138

Sorry I forgot to follow up on this. It never happened again and I never replaced any parts. I guess it was a glitch.

Possibly related: I have a G35 which also uses an e-pedal and e-throttle. A...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Just had to replace the battery for the 2nd time at 110,000 miles. Roughly 5 years and 50,000 miles per battery, which is reasonable.

The vertical door trim is starting to disintegrate in the...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

How many miles? You can probably forgo the shocks/struts for now. I'm at 110K miles and they still feel firm to me. Brakes are pretty easy to DIY. Timing belt was more difficult, but it doesn't drive...

Re: Astra XE wheel size

That info looks complete to me. Options are pretty limited for our cars due to the 5x110 lug pattern. You can easily upgrade to XR alloys, or try this website as an OEM cross-reference.

108,000 miles on my original coilpack knock on wood. I do plugs every 25,000 miles and use plenty of dielectric grease.

Re: So I just made it to 200k miles....

That is excellent to hear and pretty reliable for the mileage. I am only on alternator #2 at just over 100k miles.

Were the control arms part of a strut/shock job? Or were the ball joints and...

Re: Astra stalled on highway and won't restart

I have noticed inconsistent fuel gauge readings in my Astra too. Normally the fuel light turns on for a few miles, followed later by the blinking fuel light. But there was one time the fuel light...

Re: New to astra, plans and any insight

What kind of intake did you install? These cars' MAF sensors are very sensitive. Other owners have had issues after installing oiled K&N style intakes. MAF code may also be EGR gunk inside the...

Re: Will a chevrolet sonic or cruze Intake Manifold Kit fit?

That's a common one on these cars. You may not need to replace the manifold! Just take it apart and clean the valve inside with throttle body or MAF cleaner. It's probably gunked up with EGR. While...

Re: Manual transmission fluid change

Maybe an hour or so. The longest part was waiting for the new fluid to funnel down into the trans. It's highly viscous so it flows very slowly, especially through the small hose.

After about 200...

Re: Manual Transmission, can't put car in gear.

Good thought on the clutch master cylinder. Hope you get it fixed and back to normal. Please take pictures and notes on the cylinder replacement for us if you don't mind!

Re: Manual Transmission, can't put car in gear.

Sounds like you might have a leak somewhere, possibly the clutch slave cylinder. My brake/clutch fluid has never gone down after 100k miles, so it's not normal for you to be minimum reservoir level. ...

Just thought I'd revive this thread to share my experience. I replaced my original factory fill with Redline MT-85 today at 105,000 miles. I have always experienced harder effort to get into gear on...
