Re: coolant overflow

I hope I am not teaching Grandma to suck eggs, but in a closed, pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature is controlled by the thermostat and exceeds the normal boiling point of water....

Re: coolant overflow

Garages can do various non-invasive tests for head gaskets. Pressure and Leak Testing. It might be worth checking out that cost, rather than throwing parts at the problem.

on the suggestion that...

Re: vapor or fuel

The unit that fryer shows in his diagram is the whole unit that rusts up North. I know from previous post, you are dealing with several issues on your car, so I guess money is tight BUT do yourself...

Re: '03 l300 oil warning light coming on for no apparent reason

According to the Haynes manual on the L300 V6, the oil pressure sending unit is located on the oil pump housing on the timing belt side of the engine, near the oil oil pan.

I have never...

My apologies for inaccuracies in my previous post. It was all meant to be helpful, however I got two new posters mixed up who are both dealing with issues. the other posters car is an L300 V6. I...

Re: Poor Acceleration

If the car is new to you and the service history is sketchy or non existent, then you need to carry out the basics first to bring the car up to a safe spec. If you don't service/maintain the car and...

Re: Seat Replacement Question

Another plus of the electric seat is that they come with the heated seat elements in them.

All you need to enjoy them is either buy new switches OR get a couple from the JY. Those switches just go...

Re: Axle Seal

Can you be a little more specific please?

On the outside of the transmission on both outputs, there is an oil seal each side. To replace that you remove it with a screwdriver or pick tool, then...

Re: Transmission

If that metal wire piece is internal to the tranny then I have no idea. Unless you can have someone on here come up with the solution, I would be tempted to takes several pics of that part and its...

Re: Transmission

According to the Haynes Manual, the transmission selector that sits on top of the tranny housing in the engine compartment is in PARK when the lever is as far as it will go anticlockwise from the...

Re: Transmission

I think you have simply got the shift selector that sits atop the tranny set incorrectly with the interior shifts selector. Your description of what happens when you are seems to confirm that. I do...

Re: Transmission

If the shift selector was working beforehand and all you did was change solenoids, then I think your issue may well be with the shift selector that sits on top of the tranny and to which the shift...

Re: Transmission

Not saying this is a fix but more a check. I did the same job on my son's L300 tranny about a year ago. On the top of the tranny in the engine compartment is the shift cable. It connects to a shift...

Re: P0455 code

My son'd 2003 L300 which has lived in Florida for the past 5 years was originally from up North and came complete with the no cost option of rust. He had the code and it was the rusty fuel pipe...

Re: Quick strut assembly front

Tyson,

It's simple to do. When you start a thread on say and title it 'replacing front strut', then that thread becomes a conversation between you and other members about that that task. If, as...

Re: Quick strut assembly front

I cannot comment on abs as my son's L300 does not have. However, the simple rule is when you are removing stuff from parts you are replacing, then you will have to reattach them to the new parts....

Re: LS1 four-door sedan

Most Saturn trim is held by simple clips. I replaced my son's headliner in his L300 a year or so ago, so my memory is a bit dim on actuals. But I think you will find that when you have removed all...

Re: Driver-side output shaft came out with CV axle!

Funny you should post this issue. Last week I had to order some replacement drive shafts for my son's 2003 L300. They had been installed by the local indi garage I use (I supplied the shafts from...

Re: Struts or bushings?

As for the rear of your 2002 L300, you are likely to have worn rear bushes. My son's 03 L300 had a clonking from the rear when going over bumps. On checking the bushes they were well past it.

Re: Replaced Struts, used front Quick Struts...

Just a quick 5 cents contribution. Reminder that the L series is basically an Opel Vectra B underneath. Whilst spares for the L series may be getting thinner and thinner in the US, there is a really...

Re: 2003 LW300 Front Drivers Caliper locked up

My plain guess would be a sticking caliper OR a blocked or partially block flexible hose on that side. BUT my son's L300 does not have ABS, so is a simple braking system to work on. You have ABS and...

Re: shimmy at rear axle

A test for worn wheel bearings is to do as you did. Grab the tire at 12 & 6 and rock it back and forth. If there is movement, then that is a sign of a worn wheel bearing. I know that worn wheel...
