Re: Anyone try to trade-in their Astra?

I bought my Ranger at CarMax and had no problems buying from them. For selling, I believe they like cars that are as close to stock as possible, so if you have a lot of aftermarket upgrades, you...

Re: Formatting an MP3 CD for the stereo.

FWIW, this is the way I format them using iTunes...

1. Make a SMART playlist (not a regular one) containing the music you want.

2. Label the playlist whatever you want. I label mine with...

Re: rearview mirror upgrade

I'm pretty sure my mom's VUE has OnStar, compass and temp (wonder what the temp display would do, tho) and is autodimming. But to be honest, i've never been impressed with auto dimming. It never dims...

Re: interesting find

Yeah, I'm not a fan either. They look like a cheap knock off somewhere between an Audi and a 7-series.

And $700?

BTW... nice rims. Looks good on the black car.

Re: First Car-6 months later

For non warranty work, I'd recommend taking it to a former Saturn dealer that has kept on their old employees. I take mine to a now-VW dealer, and my parents go to a now-Kia dealer.

If you go to a...

Re: Question about brakes

Still on the factory pads at 154K. The car still stops quick, too. Mostly highway driving, though.

Re: The Ultimate Tire Replacement thread

Gonna bring this thread back as I just got a new set of tires a couple days ago...

So I said I was going to get Neros again. I lied.

I have the 18" wheels.

OEM tires -- Pirelli Rossos....

Re: Replacing the coolant surge tank

The coolant level sensor died, so I'm getting the low coolant warning when it's at normal level. The sensor is part of the tank.

Replacing the coolant surge tank

I need to replace the coolant surge tank, but can't see how to physically remove it from the car. I got as far as draining the coolant and removing the three hoses from the tank.

Do I need to...

Re: What are common Astra issues to look out for?

Timing belt tensioner... had a couple go in about 40,000 miles. Changing the tensioner involves changing the belt, so $$$. First one was under warranty, though. The current one seems to be performing...

Re: Left side, front & rear turn lites remain on

And the steering wheel lock is somewhat picky about letting you turn the key. Make sure the steering wheel isn't agaisnt one of the stops when she's turning the key.

Re: Really missing my Saturn Dealer Service Department

Oh, and I'm having the exact same problem with the volume knob. I figured I'd have to buy a new radio, which I don't want to pay for. If you turn the knob real slow, it'll work, but it's easier to...

Re: Really missing my Saturn Dealer Service Department

You may try what I do and take it to a former Saturn dealer. My Saturn dealer where I get repairs done is now a VW dealer, but it's mostly all the same employees. Haven't had any problems with them,...

Re: Just bought another Saturn

The engine seems to burn more oil than gas, so keep a couple bottles in the trunk, and check the dipstick often.

Mine had a tach that would stick every once in a while. Nothing serious, just one...

Re: Where to go now that Saturns are no longer sold?

I bought a 2007 Ford Ranger (another great vehicle that's being discontinued  ) last summer, and I couldn't be happier with it. After the Astra and Ranger, I think my list would be:

Another...

Re: wiper problem

The blade is changed along with the bracket. It just snaps in and out of the wiper arm (where the blade is "hinged"). Push on the blade with your thumb just outside the end of the wiper arm, while...

Re: Cold weather problems ????

Check the eye in the battery and see if it's still green. Mine started becoming sluggish when starting a month ago. Changed the battery and no problems since.

As far as the gas door lock, the...

Re: The Ultimate Tire Replacement thread

My originals were the 18" Pirelli Rosso. Replaced them with Pirelli PZero Nero snow tires of the same size.

Handling of the car is slightly worse than OEM (but still very good). The main reason I...

Re: Fog Lights Monitored by CANBUS?

The fogs don't give you a warning on the display when they're out. One of my lights was busted when I took delivery of the car, and one burned out about a month ago. No warnings either time.

Sounds like the camshaft position sensor. It's a very common problem. I didn't notice it as much when starting, but had to downshift going up hills....

Re: Oil Drain Plug Part Number

It looks like Rock Auto has them. Drill down to the 08 Astra, then it's under "engine."
