Re: Saturn Aura reliability? And $2K to replace the y-pipe?

Just want to say thanks for the replies (imaddicted2u). I'm facing up to this problem soon I think as the inspection is due this month. If it passes, I'll just kick the can down the road.

Alas,...

Re: 2nd gen led dash light question

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but..... a quick question: I replaced my odometer bulb with an LED on my 2002 gen 3, and I seem to recall I read it came equipped with an LED -but it is a digital...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

OK, ok alordofchaos :D

I think it actually looks better in real life. You can tell it's not a perfect match, but I think you'd have to look twice and be looking for it to notice. I'm pretty...

Re: 1995 Saturn SL Sunroof

Well... I just fixed my 2002 sunroof. Here's what I learned:

-the drains being clear are essential. I had the headliner off (I think you will have to do this) and a large syringe of water -rather...

Re: Coolant Temp - is this a Problem?

That seems about right to me, though I'd also say being about 1/4 normally doesn't seem right to me (usually below half way, but closer to half way).

These boards are full of great suggestions,...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

My clear coat has half peeled off my rain guard moldings on my 2002 cranberry SL2. Usually it doesn't bother me that much, but I did want to fix it somehow on a cheap dime. My choices seemed to be:...

Re: Aftermarket radios?

I can't comment on that stereo, but eight months in, no problem with a Pioneer MVH-X690BS. I love it, with one caveat that I was able to fix.

You don't say what you want from a stereo, but with...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

alordofchaos, thanks for that, it is nice to hopefully enable people to save the pain you've gone through. And with that sunroof it was pain. I only wish I'd taken photos, I think that would help...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

Phew! I have a working sunroof on my 2002 SL2. I bought the machined slides from Sunroofdoctor for around $135 delivered. Let's get something out of the way first: I'll give the Saturn sunroof a AAA...

Re: Would you change your 2001 SL1 for 2007 Jaguar S-Type?

Strange. I had the same thing -I saw a charcoal grey 4.0L Jaguar S-type. I've got to tell you I loved the look of that car. I really lusted after it. I even test drove it, and it was beautiful. And...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

Aaah! Thanks so much for that link, I think (unsurprizingly) it is the guides that I have a problem with! Now to consider what to do....

Re: Center brake light not working, could it be recall related, how to change?

I'd recommend giving the block-of-wood-on-the-brake-pedal-cable-tie method if you haven't already. This may also rule out a bad wire or the brake switch (though if it is the brake switch, your other...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

Alas, this car is the only car I have to drive to work with. I can't risk taking it apart and then potentially causing an issue so it can't go back together. This is also a case of not wanting to...

Re: The definitive guide to Gen3 S-series instrument cluster bulb replacement

Well I had to go back in to fix the odometer, it never did start working again. It is now also in blue. I'm really happy with this little mod -I like the blue theme much better than the old anaemic...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

Thanks fdryer; I'd actually seen that thread and tucked it away mentally for later. I'm just not 100% sure I have more than a broken guide -that big crack in the photo is worrying me (don't want to...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

It's been on the back burner for a time, but I thought with Spring hopefully upon us I'd see what it takes to get a working sunroof. Trying to turn the motor manually didn't work, so I'm assuming...

Re: Saturn Aura reliability? And $2K to replace the y-pipe?

Now I'm all ears.... Would you like to elaborate on what you did to make them fit, how you installed them, tools you needed, etc? I would be more than grateful!

Re: The definitive guide to Gen3 S-series instrument cluster bulb replacement

Quick update: I changed the theater lights to white from blue. I found the needles weren't illuminating quite as much as I wanted. YMMV.

Re: Saturn Aura reliability? And $2K to replace the y-pipe?

Nice! Without a doubt my biggest problem is not having an indoor garage -at least in the Boston area, as well as a driveway that only supports 2 vehicles. I agree; where possible, I do all the work...

Re: Saturn Aura reliability? And $2K to replace the y-pipe?

Yes, the wheel bearing was a mistake; I'd been bringing cars to a local place that had been pretty good and charging fair prices. When the wheel bearing went, I made a *BIG* mistake of not looking...

Re: The definitive guide to Gen3 S-series instrument cluster bulb replacement

I swapped out the cluster lights on my 2002 3rd gen SL2 last night, took about 30 mins in total. One of the background lights wasn't working, and it was something that had irked me for a long time,...

Saturn Aura reliability? And $2K to replace the y-pipe?

Well, this is really annoying. I just had the gasket replaced between the y-pipe and exhaust after it started blowing, and the guy at the store showed me the condition of the y-pipe. Looks like I'll...

Re: Sway Bar Link Replacement *With Pictures*

A bit of thread resurrection.... My SL2 started creaking about a week ago and thanks to these forums I realized it was a high probability it was the sway bar stabilizer links. Having had SL1's...

Re: Upgrading the radio to UUI

I second that. For around $120 you can get a really nice stereo with BT and it it is certainly doable to fit your own with a bit of patience. I used Crutchfield and bought a well reviewed Pioneer...

Re: Leaking Transmission fluid, badly

I had similar problem a couple of years ago -I think it was the transaxle seals going and they could certainly leak a lot! The seals are really cheap, but more labor involved to replace.
