Re: Radio Reception Intermittently Poor When Cold

It does sound like something is contracting in the cold and interrupting the signal path. Check the antenna socket first and make sure it is tight.

The antenna cable runs from the back of the...

The rear window for the 2nd gen SWs is attached using window adhesive, DIYers commonly use 3M window weld.

Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

Doing this as a precaution will prevent scoring of the cylinder walls and get oil up to the head before firing it up:

Make sure the battery is fully charged, then pull out the plugs and put a...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Painted the spoiler on the project SC2, broke some tabs on the lower trunk panel in the process of removing the spoiler from the trunk, and one of the bolts came out of the spoiler, so I'm going to...

Re: New used eng high idle

Parts can be bad out of the box, and it's easier to change out an IAC than an ECTS.

Is the ECTS brass or resin tip? Is your temp in range at 3/8 on the gauge? If it is brass and your temp is at...

Re: New used eng high idle

Sounds like either your new IAC is defective out of the box or something happened to the wire and you have an open circuit for that sensor.

What brand is the new IAC?
If the old IAC is available...

Re: New used eng high idle

Sounds like a vacuum hose is either cracked or wasn't connected, the intake gasket has an issue, or a sensor is bad or not plugged in.
It helps us troubleshoot when you list the year and model in...

Re: A Dodge Ram Rear-Ended Red Hot.

Get your necks checked out, see a good chiropractor or something. The injuries from being rear-ended do not show up right away and can last a long time. I still have bones moving around and tight...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

There is almost always a problem because nobody lubes the tracks yearly, and then they seize up, plus all the other ways they break.

Re: Silly Electrons

The general principle here is a cold reboot, not just a warm reboot to clear a software issue, but a full shutdown by disconnecting the battery and powering on all the accessories to bleed off any...

Re: Valve cover gasket

You could try banging on it with a hammer to loosen any corrosion. What the lady is talking about is using an angle grinder, and making a vertical slot in the head so you can get a big screwdriver in...

I have the Westar mount on my daily driver SC2, and it's pretty smooth. No issues when it's -10 F.

Regarding the...

Re: Engine knocking sound

Removing the front bumper can get you some extra room when using the aforementioned cheater bar. I have a 4' piece of pipe to slip over the breaker bar just for getting leverage on the crank bolt.

Re: Cd changer

I pulled from the junkyard about 7 years ago. Not sure if I have the cartridge to hold the CDs, would have to dig it out of the box. It's a nice piece of history.

Re: Motor swap question.

A donor short block should be fine as long as you retain the head, intake, injectors, and exhaust from the 02.
If you are swapping blocks however, you are already halfway to a rebuild.

What year...

Re: 98 SC2 project. Drive for now, maybe rebuild later.

Always interesting to see when someone has been digging in the guts of the car before you and what surprises they have left behind. I've seen wheelhouse liners bolted on instead of using plastic...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

That's the thing. If you have to take a trip south, drive instead of fly, and make a side trip to the junkyard, that's what I did a few years back when I went to Georgia. California is a long way...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

Thanks OldNuc, I have not been to a JY in Iowa, didn't know there was that big of a difference. I figured MN and IA have close to the same amount of moisture and salt.
