Re: '03 Saturn Ion Instument Panel Cluster Replacement Woes

My '03 Ion LCD doesn't work anymore and I've also thought about swapping the chip to a used instrument cluster to see if it will work, but if I botch it then I don't have a good chip. On my cluster...

@fryder who said

I agree that US oil production has been higher now than nearly 30 years ago, but the only reason that happened is because fracking became economical when the price of crude...

Re: SL on E85 part 3

@colonel who wrote How many total miles on the hooch?

Pretty sure when I bought the car it had 165k or so on it. I drove maybe 45K on E85, only occasionally using 87 octane in a pinch. My buddy...

Re: Have You Experienced the Ignition Switch Issue?

So this thread is pretty old but was on the front page so I figured I'd chime in, and because I only just recently (well couple months back) had the recall work done at the Chevy dealership, I...

Re: SL on E85 part 3

So last post for me on the '97 SL on E85. I drove the car to 216K mi until I bought my wife a new car and was down one parking space at the house. Still have the '03 ion. Ended up giving the Sl to...

Re: SL on E85 part 3

I drive pretty much all city miles here in Dallas and average 24mpg over most tanks. I have taken the car on some long stints on the highway and manage 29-30mpg, so it definitely loses mileage...

Re: SL on E85 part 3

So far it's been smooth sailing. No issues running E85 in this car. At first I inspected the fuel lines and o-rings regularly, fearing a problem, but there has been no issues running the fuel in...

Re: SL on E85 part 3

Yes, using the SL2 injectors added about a 15% additional flow rate and prevented the lean codes.

SL on E85 part 3

I haven't been on the SaturnFans in a little while, except to troubleshoot a power steering leak in my wifes's 2000 SL1 and I figured it would be a good time to report back on my 97 SL1 running E85. ...

Re: E85 Conversion on the Saturn 1999 SL2

I did a followup post some time back as well but I wasn't able to find it in the search. For the curious, I'm still driving the '97SL on e85 with the same set of SL2 injectors. 204,000 miles are on...

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Car still running normally without the problem, maybe just a fluke? I've been driving it for almost three weeks now. .

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Two days of driving to work and it hasn't popped back up. My guess is either it's getting colder out and the alternator seems to drop V the worst when hot, or the reverse slam fix freed up the...

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Since I couldn't get the problem to pop up again when I drove it yesterday (despite the drop in voltage), I plan to drive the car next week to work while I wait for a new alternator to come in. I'll...

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

The first one was already on the car, and the second was me just being impatient, so yes my mistake there. Good thing I still have an Ion when things go wrong!

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Did I mention you guys are freakin' awesome? So I took the car out for a spin to warm up the tranny for some reverse slammin' fix, and the car drove just fine. What I noticed though was that the...

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Thanks Dr B for the reply. I have Mobile 1 Synthetic in there now, so I'll try the reverse slam cure on this car. The fluid doesn't have many miles on it as far as trans fluid goes, so I hate to...

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Thanks for the quick responses! One thing I haven't tried is checking the connection pack on the valve body, and other electrical connections to the trans. That might be worth doing?

Re: Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

The ECTS is the newer brass one and it appears to be working fine (looking at the Scangauge).

Transmission fluid/filter was replaced 7000mi ago, level is good when warm. Looks good/red.

The...

Transmission not disengaging before coming to stop.

Hi all, I have a '97 SL1 SOHC auto with a 191,500mi on it that started this problem yesterday. I left from work and pulled up to a light and the engine died. I pushed the car off to the side of the...

03 Ion manual trans plug

I decided to switch my ion's 5 speed trans fluid to synthetic so I bought what I needed and got the driver side wheel off. The fill plug is easy to loosen, but the drain has the frame in the way,...

Re: Window hard to roll up/down in cold temps

How cool, I just did this job on my 97 Sl last night. I take the doors off and use silicon lube on the big gear and guide rail and it really helps smooth it out. I also bought padded felt and cut...
