Re: What they can't take from my showroom
Are you sure your dealer had a choice? GM has been ramping down the assembly lines (Aura stopped in the spring) -- you can't order something that isn't being built.

Re: Oil Life Monitor and sludge
I think you're right. It's likely GM meant the $10 cost is for the wiring and the display component on the console and the journalist thought it's for the "sensor". Wouldn't be the first time a...

Oil Life Monitor and sludge
From one GM source:
"Briefly, the Oil Life System is programmed with a certain number of engine revolutions. As the engine runs, this number is reduced until it reaches zero, and the Oil Life...

Re: GM exec rants about Consumer Reports bias
Right on. In truth, the Ion's guages are actually closer to the windshield than the standard cluster. You and CardinalFang could do a better job writing those reports. You probably wouldn't get your...

Re: Factory tires for Ion 3 kind of weak?
I tested both the Ion3/Hankooks and Ion2/Goodyears. I didn't have a lot of time with the 3, but the Hankooks slipped more when starting on snow/ice/slush. The Ion2 without TC actually slipped less....

Re: GM exec rants about Consumer Reports bias
Maybe she used wording that was too strong, "the most unprofessional group of people I have ever worked with." But other things she wrote are probably on the mark:
Queen: "They are totally...

Re: Polymer body panels in the news (Feb 06)
You're thinking why just not clear coat the plastic and any painted metal? Good question. I think one problem is getting the plastic and the paint to the exact same color in all types of lighting....

Re: Premium fuel in 2.4L?
thanks for the link. I was thinking it wouldn't be worthwhile to machine parts to different tolerances. But I didn't think about using a thicker head gasket - wouldn't be such a big deal.

Re: Polymer body panels in the news (Feb 06)
Yes, Saturn uses metal on the hood roof and trunk. The hood and trunk are designed to crumple in a crash. Plastic panels have a tendency to crack in severe impacts and you don't want shards of sharp...

Re: Premium fuel in 2.4L?
The computer in the Ion's version of the 2.4L adjusts the timing if it detects lower octane - this prevents knocking. if you are happy with the results of regular in the 2.4L, then just use it. Just...

Re: Polymer body panels in the news (Feb 06)
Relay, Sky and Aura have metal body panels. Word is that the Ion and Vue replacements will also have metal panels; the current models will continue with polymer until the end of production.

Re: Polymer body panels in the news (Feb 06)
thanks for the link. Very interesting.
I realize the impregnated color is different from Saturn.
We hear from GM that the process is too expensive due to rising oil and manufacturing costs,...

Re: Traction Control Neccesary!
TC isn't intended for situations where you are stuck in snow. Spinning wheels may get you going sometimes, but there are usually faster and more reliable ways, e.g. rocking back and forth, carry sand...

Re: 2006 ION Faulty Radio!?
The Ion (and maybe others) have at least 3 different units:
(1) base radio/single cd
(2) RDS/single CD/MP3-CD
(3) RDS/MP3-CD/6-CD changer.
RDS= Radio Data System, displays name of station,...

Re: What did you pay for your '06 ION?
Saturn does sell the cars that are returned under the 30 day exchange at a discount. There are many reasons for exchanges, e.g. different transmission, options, model, even "I want another color". ...
