Re: Here is an inexpensive ELM OBD2 code reader that works with Torque

If it actually does more than 7 PID's/sec on the S-Series I'll be amazed. Thats the best the '96-'97's I had could do. IIRC 7 updates/second is the bare minimum for a decent O2 sensor graph.

I'm...

Re: Here is an inexpensive ELM OBD2 code reader that works with Torque

OBD-II isn't fast enough for great O2 sensor data, it's a rather slow protocol and the O2 sensor should be switching faster than OBD-II can handle. Should be okay for comparing but it's too slow to...

Re: What Saturn model gets the best MPG?

Probably '95-'98 SL. Was going to say '91-'94 SL but according to the idiotic FuelEconomy.gov site the '95+ MPFI SOHC's are more fuel efficient. That's not saying much though, any SOHC in good repair...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

In VT that frame wouldn't pass the yearly inspection let alone stay together for a 2nd year unless the car was parked in a garage for 8-9 months of the year. Keep the LCA's and sway bar if you want,...

Re: 2000 SL2 Crank, No Start. Already did "All the things"

I'd have bought/rented a compression tester long before buying all those parts. Should be 180psi or higher across all 4 cylinders. Rent a fuel pressure tester at the same time, that should show over...

Re: Engine mount question

You're stick of vibrations yet buy solid mounts to put into it? That's the opposite way you should be going if vibrations are truly the issue. Don't get me wrong, if it were left up to me I'd say...

Re: Car won't start - repeating clicking noises but engine won't crank

If your cables have any signs of corrosion on them you should pull the bolt out of the cable (not the easiest thing to do), then pull the cover off the connector and wire brush the whole contact area...

Re: Why does Haynes say do not bleed rear calipers without a scan tool

Because the ABS module for that generation of GM cars is 100% junk.
Some people can get lucky and get the rear pistons (in the module, not the caliper) in the right spot so you can bleed the rear...

Re: SUNROOF: same part 3rd gen sedan and coupe?

I can almost guarantee the glass & motor are identical, I strongly suspect the frames for 2nd and 3rd gen are the same (or at least interchangeable) for ['96 (4dr)] / ['97 (2dr)] - '02 (all).

Re: 2001 SL1 fast idle and throttle sticking

Don't leave the TB on the car to clean it, that more often than not won't clean everything that needs it. Has to come off. Don't forget to get a returnable gasket for it, if you have it on hand you...

Re: 98 SL1...died while driving, wont start or crank

Various things to check in no particular order:
Crank position sensor (usually only fails hot, giving no spark until it's cooled for 2-3hrs)
Timing chain (pull valve cover to check if the cam gear...

Re: Stuck moonroof on a 2002 SL2

The 2 parts that commonly break: http://sunroofdoctor.3dcartstores.com/1996-2002-SL-4-Door_c_50.html

It's usually the plastic guides that break, probably from the motor bracket bending.

Re: What's the point of this plate in the spare tire well?

Random piece of tin trimmed to slightly larger than the hole and some liquid nails (or other silicone/adhesive) will fix that hole right up. Usually you can wet a finger and run it along the seam and...

Re: Saturn SL2 1999 Timing Chain Replacement

Every post-swap start I've done required a "clear flood mode" use before it'd actually start. Hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking, this will disable the injectors & stop the cylinders from...

Re: Gauge swap question - manual 1997 to auto 1998 (both analog)

I put a couple different PCM's in a '96 & '97, both auto & manual without any extra lights coming on (well, CEL came on with the auto PCM as it didn't understand how to handle a manual transmission)....

Re: Automatic Transmission problem 95 SL1

The downside to OBD-I is often whatever turns the light on after X amount of time never turns it on for checking codes and the paper clip method can't retrieve any stored codes.

With automatics if...

Re: Engine replaced. One electrical plug left unknown..

EVO is only on the SC/SC2/SL2/SW2 and a red 2-wire plug with only 1 side populated.

Pretty sure that orange 4-wire plug goes into the alternator, halfway through '97 Saturn switched to a crap mini...

Re: Where to get the clips for the Transmission Cooler lines?

With my idea for the fix, the clips have no use. The total cost of my idea is roughly the same as those replacement clips, $12 only without the shipping wait.

You're making this idea on both ends...
