Definitely save the sun visors
I was surprised when I wanted to replace my SL2 driver side visor, at least in Northern California one can't get a replacement sun visor for love nor money. So I had to jury rig what I had to work...

Re: Slipping clutch
I'm no expert, but my instinct would be to crouch down and look under the car at the bottom of the bell housing area, to see if oil (from a failing main seal) is apparent.
I'm thinking, if one can...

Another vote for Castrol Transynd
Man, I wish I had the skill and tools to replace my clutch :)
So my thought is, if you're going to that trouble, might as go for excellence in shifting and use at least Mobil 1 synthetic, or...

All good now, after replacing ICM, coils, etc.
Right now I have more money than time so I just got from Autozone new spark plugs (copper Autolite), plug wires, coil packs, and even an ICM. The next couple days I really want to be on site for...

Re: I have joined the code 301, 341 club :(
Thanks OldNuc - I will admit that when I changed the spark plug wires about 50K ago I also replaced the coil towers, but used Duralast, not OEM (I know, I know..). I would not be surprised if a coil...

Re: I have joined the code 301, 341 club :(
Yeah, I definitely need to do that , my conscience has been bugging me on that score. I'm hoping that for now it's more ignition system related but we'll see. Thanks for the feedback!

I have joined the code 301, 341 club :(
From past threads there's good info, but I just wanted to run this by:
- 97 SL2, 208,000 miles, replaced plugs 10K miles ago, spark plug wires about 56K ago
- Today, it started running rough at a...

Interesting new source: AmazonSupply.com
As part of work was exposed to new wholesale industrial B2B site, AmazonSupply.com.
I have to say it's pretty interesting, sort of like Harbor Freight and then some. Just wanted to pass that...

My vote: replace on your terms, for peace of mind
I'm of the school that says, replace parts that are known to fail at some time that is convenient to you. Unless money is super tight, of course.
I recommend picking a calm Saturday or other day...

Old sub zero trick: take battery indoors
On the chance this helps anyone: while in the army, based in Germany 30 years ago, we had a couple super cold winters. What worked well was bringing batteries for light vehicles indoors. It took a...

Re: alternator and auto parts store paranoia
I preventively replaced my alternator about a year ago, just because I had the time -- like you I have a 97 SL2. I went in from the bottom, and did not need to touch the power steering pump or motor...

Sounds good - thanks as always OldNuc :)
I had one of those "what could I have done different" funks about snapping that bolt. Maybe PB Blaster over night would have helped. Oh well.
Pick 'n pull, here I come...

Re: Thermostat and Flush - Advice?
I'm no expert, but when I did mine I replaced the thermostat as part of getting all the old fluid out.

Really good point there Tiger. If I had to get another commuter car, the existence of Saturnfans.com would be a significant factor in my purchasing math.
Offhand I'd say the existence of...

Literally within the last hour I passed 200,000, sorry to say I missed the exact flip. Just glanced and saw 200,002. Cool :)

Batteries can go bad fast at end of life
In my experience, after a battery is 4 years old or more, when it goes bad it can go bad fast. This I've found true of all cars, not just Saturns.
So the scenario where there's a little bit of...
