Re: air conditioning went out

Ok so I got a little sidetracked....

The clutch coil is replaced with a working unit! Thx for all the help, but now I have a new issue. Maybe just coincidence, but now when I turn on the AC I...

Re: air conditioning went out

Your pics are great info to have in preparation. It appears you used a 10mm bolt to remove the clutch? I'm confused on exactly what I need to remove the clutch.

Any suggestions on where to find a...

Re: air conditioning went out

I measured the voltage again, its getting 12 volts (actually 14, I just replaced the battery so its at full capacity). Coil is showing open resistance, which appears to be a blown coil.

So you're...

Re: air conditioning went out

Thanks for the well worded post, I did some searching before posting and read up on quite a few of your posts so I can tell you know your stuff.

When I had the voltmeter on the compressor...

Re: starting problem

Sounds like the starter, same thing happened to my 2000 SL last month. Left me stranded and had to get a tow to the dealer. My advice, buy a remanufactured starter from a local auto parts place for...

air conditioning went out

2000 SL1, just got it a few months ago. So far i've had to replace the front wheel bearings and then the starter went out recently which left me stranded. This cheap car is starting to add up. Now...

Re: 2000 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Squareback - you were right all along, it was wheel bearings! I should have trusted you from the beginning.

Luckily a good friend works with someone in the know on SL's and correctly diagnosed it...

Re: '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Squareback - can you point me to a How To on a manual trans swap? I couldn't find one in the S-series Tech or How To Library.

Do you have to pull the entire engine/trans to do it?

Re: '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

car-parts.com has some listed for around $250... I'll try finding some scrap yards nearby I guess!

So I'm armed with the correct information, how do I know I'm getting the right manual trans? Is...

Re: '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

It's a diff pin. Crap. I bought the car thinking it was the wheel bearings now I'm sure I overpaid for it. Local Trans repair shop quoted $1500 to rebuild it.

Anyone is SE Michigan know where to...

Re: '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Yeah my bad on saying "flush and fill". He said the fluid was pretty dark so he recommended changing it. He didn't say that it was low.

Thanks for the tip on the possible differential pin issue. I...

Re: 2000 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Well considering I drove the car home and he only charged me $50 for labor and trans fluid, I don't think you understand the issue. If he wanted to "soak me" he would have taken the thing apart and...

Re: '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Well I took the plunge, I am a new SL owner! Just have to turn in my Aura lease now.

I had a trusted mechanic look at the wheel bearings and CV joints and he said they were fine. He said the noise...

Question '99 SL has grinding/rubbing noise

Hey I was test driving this car and it drove fine except one thing. It wasn't from the engine, but when driving over 30mph there is a constant grinding/rubbing type noise coming from the front end. I...

What problems to look for in S-series when buying?

I am going to look at several '96-'00 SL/SW's this weekend to buy for my next car. Since i've never owned one of these, any help is appreciated.

I'm just looking for any general or specific tips...

Re: Opel Badges For Us Astra

Kind of like the new VUE, and the next Cobalt. Little different though, as these two are designed in Germany, engineered in Korea, and built in NA.

Re: Saab 9-1 May Hint at Next Saturn Astra

FYI - the 9-1 will share very little in terms of styling with the new Astra off the same global compact car architecture. The 9-1 5-door hatch and Astra 3-door hatch will have similar proportions but...

Re: Low hum/whine from front end

Ditto on Compnurd09's comment. 1st year vehicles, regardless of japanese/us/euro origin, will always have some "little" problems. While annoying, these issues are not dangerous or take away from...

Re: Outlook - Gas mileage problems??

FYI batteries are recycled, not tossed in a landfill. Unless the owner of said battery does not care about the environment. Burning fossil fuels will NEVER be better for the environment than electric...

Unfortunately I don't have time right now to keep going back to the dealer. I'll probably have to wait until a real problem crops up before I make the time to go back. At least there isn't a leak......
