Re: Car jerking in gear

Ok, looks like the culprit could be oil on the cylinder 1spark plug. It wasn't soaked but there was definitely oil in there. Is it likely that it was worse last night and a bunch drained down into...

Re: Car jerking in gear

Or maybe the injectors are clogging? I figure I'll start with the spark plugs and move on to more elaborate culprits from there.

Re: Car jerking in gear

Grinding noise didn't get any better or worse when this happened. Also, when I finally got parked, I popped it in neutral and tried pushing her around a bit, and it didn't really feel like the brakes...

Re: Car jerking in gear

I forgot to mention that when I rev it in neutral, it has no problem getting up to 4k. Does this rule out the oil-in-the-spark-plug-hole theory?

Also, what difference could the head on my valve...

Re: Car jerking in gear

I like it, thanks for the tip. I'll check the valve cover for warpage tomorrow.

Re: Car jerking in gear

Assuming I find oil, I'm going to blame that valve cover gasket. I was never happy with my work replacing it last year, as it immediately sprung a small leak. I decided to leave better off alone but...

Re: Car jerking in gear

I consider myself properly reprimanded for the low oil. In my defense, I topped it off two week ago and had no idea the valve cover gasket was so bad. And my car don't burn oil, I drilled some...

Car jerking in gear

So I've seen similar problems posted, but none that are quite what I experienced today. I'll start with some background though.

I own a 1997 sl2 with a manual tranny. I bought it with a bunch of...

Re: Random Cylinder Misfire

Well, seeing as to how I've already taken the trouble to rebuild the engine, I have the mindset that anything I do to this car I want to do right. I'll take my wife's car to work tomorrow (forgot we...

Re: Random Cylinder Misfire

Yeagh, I could have sworn I had set up a sig on this forum by now. 1997 Saturn SL2 with 200k+ on the odo but < 50K on the rebuilt motor.

I went to go ahead and replace the spark plugs only to find...

Random Cylinder Misfire

Caught a check engine light today and took it to AutoZone to have them pull the code. The guy said it read "Random Cylinder Misfire", I blanked and forgot to insist he give me the actual code (I...

Re: Wipers/Clicker Problem

I mis-posted, this should actually go in the Saturn S-Series Tech forum, as I own a 1997 SL2 (no wonder I couldn't find the thread): could one of the mods please move this thread? Thank you.

Re: ECTS Question, pretty urgent

To close this up, it was in fact my solder job that was bad. I went back in and did it proper, with heat shrink instead of electrical tape, and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks guys!

Wipers/Clicker Problem

At first it was just my windshield wipers: they wouldn't turn off when I told them to. While vastly annoying, I decided to live with it because I couldn't find a relay in the fuse box for it so...

Re: ECTS Question, pretty urgent

I've had it scanned at a shop and at advanced auto, and both times it was about the temp sensor (don't remember the exact code).

Re: ECTS Question, pretty urgent

So I cut the crimp out, and replaced it with a short length of braided wire that I soldered at both ends. This was on Sunday. At first, it was running just dandy, but then yesterday and today...

Where can I get a new one? I've checked advanced, auto zone, o'reilley's and a few local places to no avail. Is there anything special about the wires in the harness or can I pop em out and replace...

Re: ECTS Question, pretty urgent

Alright DonP I think you hit the nail on the head with your explanation. I apologize for the confusion between 'red' and 'read', but I was trying to get across that the needle jumped to the red mark....

Re: ECTS Question, pretty urgent

The temperature was pretty warm and humid (raleigh,nc) and it was real easy driving, <10 miles, <55mph. I feel better hearing about the "3/4 is not critical" thing, but my concern is the fact that...

ECTS Question, pretty urgent

I got my 1997 SL2 in December of 2008. I promptly (within the first few months) put a new ECTS in it because the car was vibrating something horrible and I read on here that the ECTS could have been...

Re: P0420 Code

Turns out it WAS the rear O2 sensor the whole time (thank goodness). That thing was a job and a half to get off though, we ended up putting a wrench on it and jacking on it with a hydraulic jack....

Re: Some MPG data and thoughts.

I know its been forever and a day but I still thought I'd post this: took a long drive right around Christmas and was very careful with my pedal-useage and lane-changing etc. I got 36mpgs (maybe 37...

Re: P0420 Code

kaptnjack: that is not what I wanna hear :-/

madpogue: I had the code pulled at an Advanced Auto Parts store, and the guy didn't offer to reset it. I felt silly asking because I wasn't sure of the...

Re: P0420 Code

I'll check prices at Rock, but I got this splice sensor for <$10.00. I'm not really looking to spend any more than that, just because the non-splice one has my specific connector already attached.

Re: P0420 Code

Consider them chastised, as the SES is now fully reset :-) Now to see if it comes back on... Heres a piece of info I left out: I replaced my upstream O2 sensor a while back with one of those cheap,...
