Re: Manual Steering Rack

It definitely different. A strong one arm or two arms is required when taking turns around 5-10 mph, but then the rest is manageable with just one arm.
I also did note that on some curvy roads, it...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

I ended up using some small 1"x2" brass blocks. I put it on the actual rack part (where the pinion would go) and the back side of the shaft, using the rack as a flat spot. I was able to get the inner...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

It is out of the vehicle, I just do not have the proper vice pads to not destroy the shaft

Re: Manual Steering Rack

Richpin does not seem to clamp the rod itself down, would I also be safe if I just carefully and slowly applied pressure with the actual rack clamped down?

Re: Manual Steering Rack

I watched it but I am still unsure of how to hold the rack and pinion from moving while I have it clamped in the vice. I do not want to nick the shaft, but I also do not want to load up the pinion...

Re: Manual Steering Rack

Tried it in the vice today, no avail. How are you supposed to get the inners off properly?

Re: Manual Steering Rack

The do hold themselves up, but are extremely pitted on the outside of the boot, and I highly doubt the tie rod ends will come off without a good fight. I figured it is safer to replace them.

Re: An SC driver in Raleigh, NC likes to haul ass!

The fastest I had my old 1994 Sl2 up to was 114, speed limiter kicked in. The fastest I had my 1995 Sl2 up to was 110, but then I decided to calm down as I saw a pair of tail lights a mile or so...

Manual Steering Rack

Hello all,
I picked up a manual steering rack from a 1999 Sl for my 1995 Sl2. I am removing the power steering, due to a leaky pump that I really do not care to fix. I want to eliminate any issues...

Re: An SC driver in Raleigh, NC likes to haul ass!

On some of the more open highways, I will run around 85mph. With the 5th gear swap, my engine sits about 3k at 85mph. Either you cruise in the left lane around 85mph or you sit behind the big rigs...

Our 1998 has that, but another green stripe below the white.

Re: new clutch checklist

My original clutch went out at 70k, the pressure plate springs were bent and shot.

If you are in the PA area, I could do the job. I have done three before.

Re: Safturn pinstriping

Our 1998 has two stripes, really small, gray and lighter green. Start at the front fender and go to the rear quarter, and both have a mini saturn planet on the rear quarter.

Re: What to save?

I would strip every last good working part. Even cut out good parts of the frame, too.

Re: can't get into gear with engine running

Personally, I would just say to redo the entire clutch system. Not many people like hearing it but it is a one time fix instead of having to locate the issue and going from there.

It appears to be the power steering pump bracket.

Subs

Hello all,
I have been playing around the idea of putting a sub in my 1995 Sl2. I have a factory casette with equalizer head unit, and was wondering if there is any way possible to put a subwoofer...

Re: Thermal R&D

Installed the catback last night. Took it for a ride, and it rubbed. Crawled under today and adjusted some of the joints, and it was routed perfectly. Very simple install, I was impressed.

Re: 93 saturn sl2 stalling

Our 1998 Sl2 just did this. My father (ex-saturn tech) was driving it, and noted that if he kept it in 4th around 3k rpms, it would stay running, but when he stopped at a light it would stumble and...

Re: Thermal R&D

I bought it from an Ebay seller, had over 20,000 purchases from them with a 100% positive rating. I was able to get it for 460 with a coupon from ebay.

Thermal R&D

Hello all
I was thinking about installing a thermal R&D catback on my 1995 Sl2. I cannot find a direct fit, and the site only shows one for a 1997-2000 S-Series. Will this fit my 1995 Sl2? I assume...

Re: Rocker Covers

I am meaning the metal part that often rots out.
I called saturnautosalvage, and am going to just do it right instead of trying to make it work. If I want to keep it, I might as well do it right

I am seeking out the rocker covers, the ones in the rear door jambs. Not on the engine.
Door Sills would be more of an appropriate name for the pieces that I am searching for....

Rocker Covers

Hello all,
I have been lurking more than posting, but there is something that I cannot figure out, no matter how much I sit down and look at the generational differences.
My 1995 Sl2 needs rocker...
