Re: Auto trans leak

No bands, or other adjustments. However, the PCM may need to do a "learn" of the parameters for the new VB. That should occur automatically and very quickly. A full relearn may take a while, but...

Re: Auto slam in DRIVE and reverse

My understanding is that the slam is usually from a VB problem, but that could be just a bad LP solenoid. Also, I think the slam causes the ISN to loosen.

Agreed, the diff pin problem is...

Re: 1996SL11.9L's 2002 SL1

If you want to spend $5 to mail them to me, I will disassemble/inspect to see if they are really bad or you are throwing TPS units at a wiring/PCM/linkage problem. I can't guarantee an absolute...

Re: water pump install tips?

Feel it? I sure didn't, but I am a clumsy oaf that can't change a serp belt in 5 minutes. You may do better, especially being forewarned. Don't be too worried about using too much RTV, it will...

Re: Saturn stalls as soon as I put it into drive.

Try this:

Remove all three of the "trans" fuses and see how it behaves. You should get R and one forward gear (3rd or 4th), and harsh shifts with all fuses out.

More to the point, when those...

Re: Saturn stalls as soon as I put it into drive.

We need the OP to chime in here. The way I read the first post, it does not stall putting it into gear; it stalls when the brake is released! A totally different interpretation by me and you.

Re: Saturn stalls as soon as I put it into drive.

I gotta ask... does the engine operation (stalling) still seem related to operating the brake pedal? If so, don't head "out in the weeds" just yet fussing with the trans/VB/solenoids. The brake...

Re: water pump install tips?

On my '94 I did not have to move the engine; I would be surprised if the frames on the later years were any different and would require moving the engine.

For the torque, practice on some other...

Re: 02 SC2 Intermittent reverse lights

It was .060-.065" The ones I cut were made from "screw-machine" stock, very easy to machine.

Re: Crossbeam Rust

Another one nobody else wants to bite on? I'm in a "non-rust" area, so have limited experience in this kind of problem. There have been several threads here about rust repair, and most anything is...

Re: Saturn stalls as soon as I put it into drive.

No one else is going to bite on this one? I can offer some guesses...

Usually the engine will be less likely to stall/die when you release the brake, but you indicate opposite:

"... but will...

Re: Mystery vacuum line

How about the 2/3 coil, any spark there? Use a (metal) paper-clip on one coil tower to close the gap down to about 1/2" for testing. Most ignition systems will give a good enough spark to jump from...

Re: Mystery vacuum line

Did I read correctly, it did not fire and run for a second or so using the starting-fluid? Check for spark, check compression. I don't think any kind of vacuum leak would prevent it from firing and...

Re: P0706 Code

Try adjusting that switch first. If you can't find a thread on how to do that, let us know and we will provide a new write-up or maybe even a link to a video.

It is an easy process, but you will...

Re: Cylinder Head compatibility

Fixing those threads is easy, but if the cam bearing saddles are bad it takes some skill/effort to fix them properly.

Re: Cylinder Head compatibility

I think the intake and exhaust manifolds are different, those would have to be changed also; and then the exhaust down-pipe probably wouldn't fit either.

Too much fussing for little-to-no gain. A...

Re: PO733 2002 SL1 Possible Solution Write Up

This is what I found on their site (bigskypowertrain.com) for "details" of the TAAT VB. I highlight some of the flags in red:

Re: PO733 2002 SL1 Possible Solution Write Up

Your fix is well-known. Thanks for posting, better to repeat something useful than to leave it unsaid! Testing the solenoid resistances is one of the first things we recommend for any TAAT problem....

Re: Strange noise coming from transmission area at idle

Yes, when the LP fuse is removed the pressure should go up to about 270 psig and stay there as long as the fuse is out. Again, 270 may not be the exact number for your year, but I'm pretty sure they...

And, if you drain the fluid you get a chance to see if any metal crud comes out. Cut open the filter, too. This whine came on sudden, correct?

Re: Strange noise coming from transmission area at idle

You are the one that welded the spiders? I forgot! The diff parts could be put into a manual transaxle, I think, you would not have to scrap the parts; but labor to do all this has to be considered...

Re: Strange noise coming from transmission area at idle

Have you considered swapping in a manual trans, or does your racing class/org require an auto trans? It is a fairly easy swap, and done by so many other folks here you can get endless advice/help.
