Re: Oil Filter Location

If I ever build a place, it will have at least one lift. But for now crawling under is the way it goes.

Around here the only S Series you will find for that price is in the scrap yard... and then maybe.

Re: bad EGR?

I'd just make an EGR block using a can or some aluminum. They can die at times. Our original worked after cleaning, but the problems came back. Doing the block is free or almost free and might...

Re: Piston soak revisited: Methods and observations

Having seen all the various soaks, I'm actually surprised that I haven't seen one mention getting all the crap back out the top better than just cranking the engine.

TBH if someone really wanted...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

I think that filter might be worth cutting open to see what got flushed out.

Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

Get it back to full, and see what it does. The faster it leaks, the better the chance of finding the leak quickly and without much pain. Don't put it off, as small leaks sometimes become big leaks...

Re: Piston soak revisited: Methods and observations

I haven't always run synthetics, but the car was purchased new and has been maintained properly. That B12 seemed to loosen things up fairly well, so I'm hoping it cleaned things up in the ring...

Piston soak revisited: Methods and observations

TL:DR version

Soaked with B12 and MMO. Got a decent bit of junk out. Long term results pending. :)

Soooo... after years of seeing posts about soaks I finally reached the point to try...

Re: Test file

Dude, how could you not? Any Saturn owner should know this crap, just posting it for the newbs! :dizzy:

Yeah, distractions and a long time since attaching images to a lengthy post....

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Yesterday I finish buttoning up the extended piston soak/flush, fresh oil and filter, and replacing the coolant reservoir that finally leaked after 24 years of a lot of heat cycles.

I did a soak...

Re: Photo Contest: Saturn Stand-Out!

If your car is still looking good, you should have a huge advantage in the background choices now. :)

But with my beater commuter, I wouldn't even think about comparing it to some of the really...

Re: Anyone in Hawaii?

Good to see you checking in, and that the car joined you in paradise. I think you are one of a handful of original owners left on the site here.

Re: "high mount" brake light bulbs 1993 SW2

I didn't realize the early wagons had the other lights. I just finally had to pick up some of the third brake light bulbs for my '95. But they are the IP type, and in the trunk!

Re: Safturn pinstriping

There are loads of variations of them. Often the dealers would set up with a local shop and order whatever different versions they wanted. I know our local dealers did them at the dealership, and...

Re: Database Error When Accessing the Forums

It's always been quick fixes when there are problems, and it's probably more work than most of us realize.

Thanks for keeping the best Saturn site alive and well Charlie. :D

Re: '98 SC2 "Trophy" Car - $11,500

In all fairness, just about any over the top custom is a money pit when you sell. Especially with less than desired cars, and paint that is a "yes" or "no" to most looking at it.

Re: Whats your MPG?

I remember when you found Creampuff, and the only thing that made me sad was it being an automatic. ;) Glad you found a good home for it.

As for me, 38 MPG last tank. Probably a high over...

Re: Cooling fan activating too late ??

My '95 fan on point is right about 3/4 even on the gauge, possibly a little higher.

As for the quoted chart, known to be completely whacked at lower temperatures. First gen cars are 150 when...

Re: SW2 Transmission gone BAD....?

What does the car do if you take it out of gear and coast? Have you checked anything at all? If not the basics of checking out the plugs and wires might be a good first step.

It sounds to me...

Re: Protecting electrical connections project

As for the above, short of a professional type coating to protect from rust and wear, regular old WD-40 can be helpful for keeping the moisture out of areas. I use it any time after engine cleaning...

Re: 93 saturn sl2 stalling

I'd think with the high idle issues that another possibility at this point may be the throttle position sensor. TPS is known to cause the high idle and some other problems while cruising, but will...

Re: Whats your MPG?

Looks like Red Hot has a better MPG trend than the Creampuff did.

Re: Is my thermostat behaving normally?

That would be far too easy for someone wanting to make extra work of the simple jobs. But in the reality for those not wanting extra work, if the ECTS hasn't leaked it's probably in a condition...

Buy spark plugs and install them. Then listen to part of the forum tell you that you made the wrong choice.
