Re: Overheating Engine

If the problem is a leaking intake manifold nipple, you can cut the manifold and replace just that portion. The part is a Dorman 902-100 and is available from Amazon for around $50.

There is a...

Re: A/C fan not working.

My Ion has an ECM problem triggering the fan as well. The ECM should pull one pin to ground to trigger the fan relay (which it doesn’t). Jumping it to ground turns on the fan.

Rather than...

Re: 03 ion sway bar bushing size ??

It depends on the suspension, so there is not one size that fits all. The easy way is to measure the diameter of the sway bar.

I seem to remember discussions about this many years ago. A search...

Re: 2003 Saturn ION turn signal does not make "clicking" sound when working...

The 03 does not use the head unit for the clicks. I seem to remember that there is a small transducer on the back of the instrument panel for the clicks, dings, and whatever other sounds it makes.

Radiator Cooling Fan Problem

The radiator fan in my 2003 Ion with 180K doesn't come on, even with the A/C running. It is warm enough here for AC, and the compressor does kick in. I checked the cooling fan fuse which is fine...

A/C Hose replacement

While changing the cooling fan on the 2002 SL2 I had an “Oops” moment and damaged the suction side A/C hose (tool slipped). The damage is minimal but enough that it is leaking. The A/C was working...

Re: Oooops Ive done it again...

The OEM linkage is plastic and breaks easily. I replaced mine with a metal one from Autozone. I think it was Dorman brand. That was about seven years ago and it hasn’t broken again.

Re: A/C problems

I rented a set of gauges and vacuum pump from Autozone. I had to call several stores to find one with both of them.

I had to buy the can tap (cheap). The sl2 takes 1.5 lbs of R134A so pick up...

Re: Review of DEA motor mount...

I put a solid DEA mount in. It lasted about a month. Vibration was horrible. I gave in and bought the GM mount and now it's smooth.

Re: 2003 Ion 2 door pawl

I was about to post about the old thread, but Ruley73 beat me to it. The part I bought on Amazon was an exact fit, and still works. I open that door several times a day with the key.

I replaced...

Re: 2003 Ion 2 Radio Replacement

One of the wires in the harness is switched with the headlights. This is to allow a day/night mode on the display. You must have used that line for power instead of the normal one.

Re: Some info for Cali owners and emissions testing

A car can legitimately pass, then fail two years later. Parts wear over time and mileage. I can put a lot of miles on in a two year span.

Once again, I'm glad I escaped CA.

Re: Have You Had No Automatic Transmission Problems?

2003 Ion 1 sedan. This is the Aisin five speed automatic. Owned this one since new. Fluid changes every 50k. I'm at 150k now (time for a change). I drive this one easy.

I had the shift flare...

Re: Have You Had No Automatic Transmission Problems?

2002 SL2. The car was purchased used with 48k on the clock. Trans fluid changed every 30k since then (no idea about how it was treated before it was in the family). Car is at 150k now, and so far no...

Re: GM Replacement Ignition Switch Problems

If the emergency release lets the key come out, the problem is the BTSI. It is a switch in the gear shift that tells the car you are in park. If the switch is bad, the car thinks you are in gear and...

Re: Death Bell has been rung

Way back in the early 1980's, I worked as a TV repair technician. The owner of the shop would mark up the really cheap parts insanely (ten dollars for a fifty cent part). One day I asked why he...

Re: Blinkng service engine light and slight stalling

Flashing CEL indicates an active misfire.

You do not want to drive like this for long. You are dumping unburned fuel into the catalytic converter, which will destroy it. If the problem is NOT...

Re: 2004 Ion 2 QC Idle Issue

All IONs aer not the same in this area. The 03-04 have a traditional cable operated butterfly throttle. The 05 and up are drive by wire. The OP has an 04. I would start by cleaning the TB. Next would...
