Re: That "old car smell"

Oy----that sounds toxic to me! Don't know how healthy that would be to breathe.

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Okay----since I ROYALLY SCHMUCKED UP my coil packs years ago  by putting dielectric grease on all surfaces, plates and all, I thought that, what the heck---why not try to simply clean...

Re: That "old car smell"

That might work wonders! Let it set on the seats, carpet, etc. then vac it up. Baking soda is used to get rid of odors in everything from inside your fridge to inside the cat's box. When my stink...

Re: That "old car smell"

I think you're lucky you're riding around in your Saturn today. Should have gone up in flames before you owned it! :hothead:

Re: That "old car smell"

Looks like the previous owner had a nicotine problem. :whoa: Headliner probably got the brunt of the smoke. Glad you got rid of it. So far, that Lysol is doing the job on my car---for now.

Re: Dielectric grease on plugs?

Yup, I've moved away from grease on my plug bodies to only grease on the end terminals of the plugs.

Re: That "old car smell"

Thanks but actually, I not looking for a new car smell---just to get rid of the old car smell. No smell is good by me.

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Okay, then I think I'll just stick to the 96-99's. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Just in case---at the Junk Yard. I could use years 96 through 02 coil pack in my 97??? Or do I have to stick with 96 through 99? Thank you!

Re: Dog bone motor mount correct way to insert?

Years ago, not long after I bought the car, I replaced my dogbones with the ones that are supposed to never need replacement and glad I did now. Never thought I'd have the car this long and they are...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Our local pick and pull sale days (which are full of people and you wait to check out because of all the people in line) are really popular. Probably in another month or so. I can live with this...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Just checked my local pick and pull and their price on a coil pack (I assume the whole assembly) is just over $50. Their sale days give 40% off that. A good deal.

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Okay, will do. So---the ICM is the "bottom" part of the assembly and the coil is the "top part" of the assembly and I should look for both of these in good condition, on a lower mileage...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Yeah, but I see that the new ones on RockAuto run from about $80 to over $100. If I buy at a junk yard, aren't I just jumping out of the pot and back into the fire, considering they're old with many...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Ugg---how much are we talking about for an ICM replacement? (Because, I'm really shooting in the dark here and looking for answers)
Or let me ask this---------with around 300K on the car,...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Considering Delphi used to be part of G.M. would that still be aftermarket? And if I go with one from the Junk Yard, as long as I find one with only, maybe 100K miles, that would be better than what...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Thanks for that info. You know, thinking about this more, the car's got "somewhere" around 300K (broken odometer long ago) I wonder if it would just be a good idea to get a whole new coil pack? I...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Okay, great. I've pretty much got brand new plugs and wires so I'll clean the coil "blocks" and terminals and see if that slight hesitation problem goes away. Changing the ECTS really, really...

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

Or is any hesitation problem more than just cleaning those terminals and I may need a whole new coil pack? Thanks for anymore info.

Re: Cleaning ignition coil pack?

I'm pretty sure that years ago, it was recommended, on this site (by some) to coat those large surfaces with the grease to help stop corrosion. But in effect, that would probably cut down on the...
