Re: Good Bye Vue

Glad you are happy with your new purchase. GM's small SUV/CUV offerings aren't the most competitive but if you are willing to make concessions then you'll find something you can enjoy.

I hope you...

Re: test drove a 95 SC2 5 spd

Pick up that turd and put a new engine in it and a fresh clutch. I'm sure at 180K there are whooped chassis and suspension components as well. It would make for a fun project.

Re: Let the Opelizing Begin!

Saturn purists don't recognize the Astra because of its tainted pedigree. So why not rebadge it as an Opel? In the end, the car remains a huge commercial and performance failure so you might as...

Re: 2005 redline value

You should be able to get $8000 for that low mile Redline. The design of the 2005 is favored among Saturn fans.

Re: time for timing chain?

It would be a great piece of preventative maintanance to swap out the timing chain at that mileage.

Re: Bonehead Saturn Craigslist find of the day

The car is dent-free. Not many Saturns out there in that condition.

Re: muffler hanger strap fix

C'mon guy, we're talking about a muffler hanger strap here. If you are struggling with that, then maybe you should take the car to a reputable mechanic and have it properly repaired.

Re: what weight oil?

The oil change algorithm cannot detect the type of oil you are running. It will give you the same change oil command regardless of mineral oil, blended, or full synthetic.

Re: what weight oil?

Stay away from synthetic "blend" motor oils. They are basically mineral based oil with just a very small fraction of synthetic oil added so they can claim "blend" for marketing purposes. Go with a...

Re: Should I buy an older Vue?

Agreed. That vintage of VUE offers the superior Honda engine and drivetrain. With proper maintenance, it will surely outlast the GM body and chassis.

Re: rattling noise as I go over bumps

The vehicle is 10 years old. The front suspension is in need of replacement along with various bushings and other wear items.

Re: New Guy and new to me Ion-2

Saturn made a supercharged version in the Redline. It also came with factory suspension tuning, a manual transmission, and the necessary bodywork to make it look like a performance car. You'll...

Re: I know the economy is bad, but this is just ridiculous!!!

Considering the state of disrepair this vehicle is in, I'd be very surprised if anyone passes it for NYS inspection. With the new computerized system there is a lot of liability involved to let one...

Re: Astra is up for sale

Might want to lower the price down to about $8500. You're getting into Mazda 3 territory at $11,500 and that is a much better car.

Re: Sold our '04 L300 today

Congrats on offloading that car for so much money. Your neighbor really got taken on this deal, but I'm glad you could get the money and put it toward the minivan.

Re: non fouler idea sucks!

Sounds like you should sell the car. It's 10 years old and will likely continue to plague you with emissions issues that you are unwilling to properly fix. Check out the Chevy Spark.

Re: Oil Burning after rebuild

On the plus side you have a rebuilt engine that is very likely to be reliable outside of oil consumption.

Rather than tear it down again or pray that in another 4K miles it magically heals itself,...

Re: P0300, P0340, P0341 all together

At 169K, I think your Saturn just gave up the ghost. Be glad is lasted as long as it did considering the poor maintenance history on the vehicle.

Re: Adding an oil pressure gauge

I removed the factory idiot light sending unit and added the proper fitting and sending unit for a digital gauge. The unit has been accurate and performs flawlessly.

Re: 2002 Saturn L200 158,000 miles problem

The car is 10 years old and has over 150K miles. That's beyond the design life of the car. Be glad it lasted this long and start looking for a replacement. That turd is ready to be flushed.

Re: What type of oil to put in?

Mechanic likely used standard 10W-30 bulk oil. Best thing you can do is just keep topping it off and make sure it is at the full mark. I went with a fixed orifice PCV valve and that helped a bit.

Re: Back from long break, new to me L300

Sounds fairly typical of that vintage of L-series. Sure, they look pretty decent, but there's well over $1000 of hidden maintenance looking underneath that relatively low but accurate asking price....

Re: New Old Saturn

Considering its a 1995 with OBD1, something major is causing the illumination of the service light. It should be very easy to pinpoint.
