Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

You may have not had a leak at all.

Whoever filled it last time may have done the same thing I did when first got a Saturn - assume that you just fill the tank about half way, and call it a day...

Re: Oil Filter Location

Same here.

This has been on my "when I have an extra $2,000 laying around" shopping list for a while (pretty far down :)). Would come in handy several times a year but not quite worth buying,...

Re: RKE module failure ?

ignore my post - misread the OP and thought only the trunk was not opening. Did not realize RKE was not working on the doors, too.

Re: RKE module failure ?

Could be an electrical issue (fuse, cut or loose wire, solenoid, etc.) since everything else with the RKE works except the trunk release.

A few threads mentioned a bent pin in the trunk release...

Re: What would cause coolant to be used only when the AC is on?

^ ^ ^
Might be developing the infamous driver-side radiator end-tank leak. Sometimes when it first starts, it only does it when the radiator is above-normal hot, and only seeps out through a thin,...

Re: Aloha! Anyone else in Hawaii?

I think the main part to worry about is the front subframe on the driver side. richpin used to have a video about oiling the inside, not sure if that is still available. There are other anti-rust...

Re: One thing you wish Saturn had done.

Thanks, sounds like it would not be hard to fab something and use epoxy to adhere

yeah, that is what lead me to thinking of that 924 method, but using a color-matching door panel or fender from...

Re: Switch from 5w30 to 10w30?

My owner's manuals (1998, 2001, 2001) all say 5w30 is the recommended oil weight, but if ambient temps will remain above 20F, 10w30 is fine, too.
Pretty sure most of Hawaii is normally above 20F :)

Re: One thing you wish Saturn had done.

Wasn't it Penske who backed out of the deal?

IIRC, they could not find anyone to make the plastic panels cheaply enough.

I would have loved a plastic car with a 2.4L engine and 6 spd manual...

Re: One thing you wish Saturn had done.

Made me think of something . . .

Remove SC2 headlight covers.
find matching body panel at junkyard
Cut out body panel slightly larger than cover, place over cover
Apply judicious heat...

Dipped in polyurethane / POR15 then painted at the factory. :)

Oil drain holes in the pistons

Beefier pin in trans

Top 3 Saturn killers right there; rusted subframe, run low on oil, diff...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

You need to add some photos to dummo's "Saturn standout photo thread" - I think you may have a chance of winning that :D

Re: Fuel injectors

^ ^ ^
Good call. Not sure of how many miles are on your car, but I have never personally had an issue with fuel injectors. My minivans had 202k, 240k. Current one has 175k, never an injector...

Re: Fuel injectors

No personal experience but I have heard good things about witchhunter.

Given how long you plan on keeping the car, maybe look for a set of low mileage injectors at the JY, sending them to...

Re: Why is my 01 sl2 getting such low mpg?

cold weather, alignment, tire pressure, leaking thermostat, slow O2 response, slight changes in how you drive or route taken, etc., lots of things can affect MPG without throwing a code

Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

It's a sealed system that should not need to be refilled, so I would check for leaks (though there is a chance that it was underfilled last time this was done)

Common spots
