Re: Back for more Cruise Control info...

The DOHC PCM will run the engine but won't shift the MP6 (SOHC Automatic) and CC won't turn on with a MP2 (SOHC Manual).

Even if you find a 3rd gen SOHC PCM you'll probably end up needing the Tech...

Re: Starter motor

While you're there getting another used starter pull a pair of intake manifold studs & nuts. Install the stud with some locktite in place of the starter bolts, much easier starter replacement in the...

Re: hit 2 curbs, now its busted

If you're VERY lucky it only pushed in the top of the knuckle where it mounts to the strut, but the struts have proven to be the most common weak point in tire first side impacts with these.
If the...

Re: Car is stuck in first

If you can let the clutch pedal out with the engine running and it in gear without it moving it's most likely a internal transmission issue.

My newbie to manuals step-sis finished off the pressure...

Re: 1999 DOHC Smoking like crazy

I bought a crazy smoking '95 SL2 once. Checked the dipstick, decided I should drain out a couple quarts to get it down to full and see what happens. What happened is no more smoking but it was...

Re: Throttle Problems

If you keep the vacuum harness with the TB then any '91-'98 will fit fine, but I suspect there's a good reason the big/small ports flip orientation sometime around '95-'96 so try to find a 1st gen.

Re: Throttle Problems

There should be marks on the screw from uncovered threads if someone messed with it, if so just turn it so those are covered again.

I'm not sure I'd mess with the idle stop screw unless someone...

Re: Fresh air vent repair troubles

If it were me I'd outline the hole with RTV and squish screen door material into it. If you want some of the anti-water capability of the stock filter then run a "tall" bead first, let it cure, then...

Re: Throttle Problems

The FSM doesn't say how to get it back where it belongs, just replace if it's not acting correctly. It also stress's in just about every paragraph not to mess with the screw and to replace the TB...

Re: Change Gear Ratio

You can't change the gear ratio in the automatics without putting a custom transmission controller on it as well. The stock PCM will freak out and at best only give you 1st gear.

You get around...

Re: Tie rod end troubles

Too bad plumber's don't have a handy tool for dealing with round objects that need to be tightened or loosened. I think if they did it'd come in super handy for round things on cars...like tie rod...

Re: Broken trunk wires!

4 black wires are all ground (pin B & D from lights, pin E to ground pack on package tray, H latch motor)

Re: TAM #21011170 question.

One is the OEM frowny design, the other the OEM solid.
No truly new OEM engine mount exists, they're all 5+ years old as they haven't been produced in at least that long.

'92-'95ish got the...

Re: Gen 1 specific parts

Nobody actually wants the seat belt motors in the '91-'94s, they just don't realize how easy it is to swap '95 belts in.

SOHC's have aluminum valve covers '91-'02, but yes if you come across a...

Re: Swap questions

Unless it's a '91-'94 you can leave the wire harness alone.

Only the cluster should be swapped over if it's a '91-'99.

Transmission only needs to be swapped if it's an automatic, unless it's a...

Re: Fuel injector location / cylinder association

A compression test won't tell where the issue with the cylinder is, it'll just say "Yup, there's a problem here".

When you want to know where the problem is without a full tear down rotate the...

Re: Seat Foam Interchangability

Easier and faster to simply bolt the SC2 seats in. Verify the seat belt has the same size/style on the latch on both cars, '99 was the change over year and it's much easier to swap the seat mounted...

Re: Fuel injector location / cylinder association

Unplug it and it's disabled. Might possibly set a code but doubtful with OBD-1, even if it does it'll reset itself when you plug it back in.

The nice thing about these car's is they're old enough...

Re: 1995 S stock radio/cassette has no display, no reception.

They're cheap to buy when they're useless piles of electronics, once someone add's a useful aux port (that cost's $0.30, and maybe an hour to install) to it the price jumps from $30 to $300.

Looks like an exhaust hanger to me too, but it's a bolt on style that I never saw on an S-Series.

Re: Front TAM mount question

All the shim is going to do is raise up the engine height, it's not going to restore it's anti-vibration capability.

Probably the last of the OEM mount collection: <here>...

Re: Coolant leak behind the engine

Unless your's is actually special, the intake manifold cracked at the coolant port and needs to be repaired. Pretty sure conditions are too harsh for normal JB Weld to work, though other more...

Re: Who has lightened their flywheel, SOHC?

I used the same 5spd transmission that you have in your SOHC in the SL2. With all the other stuff I did to it, it was as fast if not faster than the shorter geared "stock" 5spd. Combined with the '94...
