Re: What 3rd generation SL's came with the dark interior?

My '01 SL1 has the dark grey interior. The original paint color appears to be dark green (it was repainted another color by the PO).

Hope that helps.

Re: Record Keeping / Maintenance Journal

An Excel spreadsheet works for me. I use it to keep track of repair work, with a second page to keep track of fuel economy.

Re: Dash sub?

I guess it's a little late for advice regarding those fasteners. But for future reference, you can try inserting a thin-blade screwdriver between the screw-head and the base, and exert a little...

Re: Dash sub?

There's plenty of space in the center of the rear deck for woofers. You may need to reinforce the sheet metal a little, though.

As for a sub in the dash... I wouldn't recommend it. As noted...

Re: Intake Resonator

Or you could block off the stock intake opening, and move the IAT upstream. ;)

Edit to add: hey, this is my 69th post. Party on, dudes!

Re: 5th gear swap results..so far

Oh, so the MP3 only came with the DOHC engines? I didn't know that.

Re: Engine Oil Cooler

An oil cooler would only help if your engine oil gets really hot. With a stock Saturn that is not driven like a race car, and is not in the middle of Death Valley, that just isn't going to happen.

Re: 5th gear swap results..so far

Don't any of the cars with the MP2 transmission have cruise control? If so, why not swap PCMs?

Re: 17" wheel & tires "SLOW"

What the guys above are hinting at is that with a larger wheel, the outer rim is further from the center of the wheel. For example, with a 14" wheel, the outer rim would be 7" from the center of the...

Re: Better fuel efficiency with power on demand

Sounds like you have one of the wax-pellet variety. The wax is in the little "piston" that pushes / pulls on the flapper valve. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do to "tune" those, since the...

Re: Better fuel efficiency with power on demand

I'm not familiar with the Volvo flapper valve you're using. How is it actuated (electricity, manifold vacuum, something else)?

Re: Better fuel efficiency with power on demand

I agree. I also did a warm air intake mod, and found that there wasn't much difference in air temperature, unless the front grille was partially blocked. With the radiator being right in front of the...

Re: Air Intake and Its Side Canister

I also removed the resonator from the air intake. There was no noticeable difference in engine noise. But then again, I drive my Saturn pretty conservatively (to save fuel / money).

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Thanks for the info. I may do something similar, using coroplast.

BTW, today I stuffed a couple pillows into the dash. OK, actually it was just the pillow stuffing. There's a lot of empty space...

Re: What do you think of buying from Tire Rack?

I've purchased tires from Tire Rack on several occasions. The only difficulty comes when a part is defective, or if you need to use the road hazard warranty. Because then, you have to ship stuff back...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

I got a piece of pipe insulation (foam rubber tube) for a dollar at the local hardware store, cut it in half, and blocked off the grille in my SL1. That should help the engine warm up faster in the...

My new wheel covers came in. Aren't they sexy? ;)

Re: The Daily Driver Project

Just did that today... I must be lucky? There doesn't seem to be a vacuum leak through the intake manifold gasket.

Re: The Daily Driver Project

I appreciate the vote of confidence. But I'm not very "Saturn savvy" either. And I don't live near Brevard County. I wish you the best of luck, though.

Re: The Daily Driver Project

Yep, I remember your comment, which is part of the reason why I pulled the exhaust manifold. I figured I'd paint it while I was at it.

However, I was not aware that the AIR passages went into the...

Re: The Daily Driver Project

Oh, I forgot to mention something. During the tranny / clutch / oil seal project, I also painted the exhaust manifold. When I pulled the manifold, I found the AIR passages (both in the manifold and...

Re: The Daily Driver Project

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

It's been awhile since I last checked in. But there's good news. I was able to find a good donut spare. And I pulled a working MP2 transmission from a car in the...

Re: Transmission fluid change question 5 speed

I doubt your manual transmission oil actually needs to be changed. The shop monkey probably saw ATF on the dipstick and thought "oh, it has ATF... must be changed every 30K miles". If the tranny oil...
