Re: Plastic power window slider piece.

I once replaced one of those with a little wheel that was designed for sliding shower doors, which I got from Home Depot. That was maybe not the greatest idea, but it did work.

Re: George Jetson sound plus intermittent reverse slam

The ATF is Dex3, with a Delco filter.

I just did a forum search on "97 output shaft bearing" - that certainly does sound like the problem I'm experiencing. I do have a rebuilt DOHC engine and...

George Jetson sound plus intermittent reverse slam

About a month ago I noticed that my 97 automatic SW1 with 174k miles was leaking transmission fluid. I found the cause - the transmission filter was loose. I tightened it and checked the level, and...

Re: Looking for a new stereo unit, looking for double-din

Double-DIN stereos won't fit in the S series. The only kits out there are for single DIN with an extra little pocket to hold CDs... like this one:...

Re: Axel or wheel bearing?

If the sound changes a lot when you apply the brakes, then it could be brake-related, but if not it sounds to me like a wheel bearing.

You can replace the wheel bearings without having to remove...

Re: Car drives poorly when the A/C is on

There is no way that the manufacturer of a general kit would know how much refrigerant would be appropriate for any particular vehicle. I don't know what this kit looks like, or what that guage looks...

Re: Car drives poorly when the A/C is on

It sounds like you don't have quite enough refrigerant in it... that could make the pressure switch cycle the compressor on and off, which could cause the jerkiness you are experiencing. One way to...

Re: shifter tower repair?

You can get the actual gasket (part # 21001244 ) from a dealer, or you could use automatic transmission RTV sealant like Permatex 81180.

Re: OEM Transmission Filter

The magnet would not cause a leak. A leak could be caused by a loose filter or by debris on the mating surface causing it not to seal properly.

Hand-tighten the filter to make sure you have it...

Re: dribble noise when braking

I'd put the car on jackstands and rotate each wheel by hand, having someone press the brake pedal once it is going fast... this should help isolate the problem wheel.

Re: A/C Compressor Clutch

The procedure for changing out the clutch has been described as follows (not my write-up):

Remove the central screw from the front, pry off the clutch plate with a flat screwdriver (yes, according...

Re: Do I need to worry about oil pressure when using oversize oil filter?

The oil pump can handle that filter fine. After your first start-up after the oil change, the oil filter will always be full of oil... the lack of oil in the filter on that first start-up was the...

Re: Need new hub bearings .. Brakes/Rotors

Another option would be to get a pair of knuckle-and-strut assemblies from a junkyard and replace everything at once. That way you don't have to press out the old bearing to replace it. A used...

Re: Exhaust replacement decision

to remove the O2 sensor, first remove any dirt/crud/rust from the area with a small wire brush, then soak with PB Blaster, then remove the O2 sensor with a special O2 sensor socket which will have a...

Re: 1998 sc2

Another good test would be to jump-start the car. If the engine turns over when jump-starting, but not otherwise, then your battery may not have enough charge to start the car, but just enough to...

Re: Won't crank - Battery brain teaser

Three years is a reasonable life for a cheap battery. I'd replace it with a Duralast Gold... I have one of those that's still going strong after 8 years in the Arizona heat.

Re: Exhaust replacement decision

It sounds like the car is running well... why do you think that your cat converter is plugged up? Does the car have guts when the front O2 sensor is removed? That would be the indication I would look...

Re: Multiple Fuel Filter Replacements

The fuel should be clearish. The important thing is you don't want to see any particles in it.

The fact that it recovers after a rest makes me wonder if your problem might be the fuel pump heating...

Re: Multiple Fuel Filter Replacements

When the engine craps out, if you wait a couple of hours and then start it, does it run OK then, or does it refuse to start at that point or does it run badly?

If you disconnect the fuel hose from...

Re: 1997 sl1 A/C problem condensor bad

You will definitely want a new dryer if the old one has stop-leak in it - there's no way to clean it out. It'll be $25-ish.

Re: Squeak from drivers side tire area?

BTW, if you don't already have a side-mounted balljoint puller like the one in this picture, you'll want one for this job:
