Re: First the input shaft nut, now what?

I found the perfect fix! I call it the 2009 Cadillac CTS4 fix! Didn't help with reverse in the Saturn, but sure helped make the wife happy, and I haven't heard a single car-related complaint out of...

Re: First the input shaft nut, now what?

Can you switch solenoids around? I know nothing about the valve bodies other than to replace them when reverse won't stop slamming.

Re: First the input shaft nut, now what?

Second gear isn't completely lost;

Doesn't like to go into 2nd when it's cold, but it will. Once engaged, seems to hold ok. Once warmed up, pretty much no way to get it to go into 2nd. Going from...

First the input shaft nut, now what?

Last fall, lost 2nd and reverse. Did the whole input shaft nut replacement, fixed it perfectly! A few months later, more 2nd/reverse problems. Did the nut replacement again today, didn't change a...

Re: Advance/Retard Timing for a slight power increase?

Molly, if you haven't already, replace the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat. Even if you think they don't need to be changed. The temp gauge should NOT sit at 1/4. Yours should sit right around...

Re: Reverse issue - valves or nuts?

You should not need a sawzall at all to do a transmission swap. If you do, you're doing it wrong.

S-series slushboxes are not only some of the most reliable, but also the easiest to fix when...

Re: Reverse issue - valves or nuts?

I know a cruddy valve body is USUALLY the cause of a loose nut, but the only time the trans ever slammed is when it was exceptionally low on fluid due to a leak a year ago. I fixed the leak and it...

Re: Reverse issue - valves or nuts?

I'm hoping so. The nuts, gasket and socket are much cheaper than a valve body, and I have a full auto shop at my disposal to do the work.

Reverse issue - valves or nuts?

In the 5 years I've been active here, I've read all the threads about slush box issues, but thankfully I've never had an issue, until now. And I want to make sure exactly what I need to fix on it....

ECTS dud!

I deduced via symptoms and logic that my 5 year old brass ECTS was failing. The last day before I changed it, my magic paper clip gave me a code 15 (coolant temp too cold). That sealed the deal for...

Re: Replace window motor

The motor i bought did, as well. I tried and tried to drill out the rivets previously. All I got out of it were a few broken drill bits. Maybe I was doing something wrong.

Re: Replace window motor

The motor (or more specifically, the worm gear box) is indeed riveted to the regulator assembly. I've tried previously to drill out those rivets, leaving me with many broken drill bits. So I removed...

Re: Replace window motor

New motor in, Syl-glide plastered everywhere, and she goes up and down without a problem.

Re: Replace window motor

Well I decided to pull the motor out of the worm drive to clean and lube the worm gear. Indeed, there was some hardened lithium grease in there that needed to be removed, so it was a good idea....

Re: Replace window motor

Door skin off. Lithium grease damn near rock hard. Insert string of expletives here.

What to use to remove this crap so I can lube her up with some synthetic cold-weather friendly slippy slime?

Excellent advice, guys. I'll report back when I get a chance to take the door skin off. Thank you!

Re: Replace window motor

Yes Amazon and eBay both do, for 1996+. Will that work in a 1995? Also, as I've said, I haven't had the door skin off yet. I did brakes and a radiator hose today, that was enough! When i put the...

Re: Replace window motor

That's a good idea. I haven't had the door skin off yet to mess with it, I was just narrowing down the issue. The switches are famous for getting gunked up and failing, so that's why I ruled it out....

Replace window motor

Over the course of the last year, my driver door window has been getting more and more stubborn. It moves less and less each time, followed by a minute or so of nothing. So you wait, then hit the...

Man I love these forums and the people on them, but in almost every thread it seems nobody reads the OP completely.

As I stated in my OP, "My calipers hang up/stick/whatever. About a week after I...

New front calipers

My calipers hang up/stick/whatever. About a week after I replace or resurface the rotors, they warp. This has happened three times in a row. I'm tired of vibrating brakes!

I want to simply replace...

Re: 99' sl2 Catalytic Converter

"49 state legal" means every state but California. That's why it's 49 and not 50. California has the strictest emissions standards in the Western Hemisphere.
