Re: 2001 SC2 Coupe

Also check the ECTS for cracks (if your 2001 came with a plastic one) and the connector for corrosion.

Re: Chasing AC leaks

Looks like the service port on the junkyard-new discharge line was the main culprit. They of course doused the line and valve in spray paint to mark that it had been evacuated and I think that...

Re: Question: Heading Trouble Off at the Pass

No clicks at all is not the starter. If you do still hear that quiet internal relay clicking then you need a new starter ASAP as it will leave you stranded.

Re: Oil pan bolt size (not drain plug)?

6x1.0x13mm sounds about right. Needs to be a flange head IIRC and definitely needs red loctite.

Re: Chasing AC leaks

Neither actually. :D This is just a spare since one of those is on permanent loan and the other kinda sorta blew up. The system does have dye and oil. In my limited experience it seems like a...

Re: Chasing AC leaks

Receiver-dryer looked ok, but didn't get the most thorough inspection due to location. Hoses looked good too, especially the new ones.

The local gas shop should have a nice tank of Nitrogen ,...

Re: Chasing AC leaks

Oh that's a good idea using N2, depends if I can get it cheaper than r134a but I'm guessing so. Condenser looks spotless and same with the TXV. The bottom bolt on the TXV connection had some kind...

Chasing AC leaks

I got tired of the temp car not having AC. When your dress shirts are sweat-steam pressed it is just too hot. Initial inspection showed that the suction line had the AC hose equivalent of dry rot...

Re: When to Shift?

Indeed it does. If it will be a habit then a beefier clutch is a very good idea.

Re: When to Shift?

I'm hoping you've done something to the differential or that wheel hop wheel cause wheel bad problems wheel quick. Seriously I would be amazed if a stock diff will last a week with WOT launches.

What's your location and how much do you want for it?

Re: '93 SC2 too hot at highway speed- frustrated!

Same layout and you do not need to remove AC to change thermostat. IIRC you will have to get one bolt in and out "blind", but overall very easy job. Use a Stant 14279 or the ToughOne with the same...

Re: Can I replace a SOHC with DOHC?

No. I initially thought the same, but Saturns usually do not send any coolant into the oil; only the other way around.

Re: Can I replace a SOHC with DOHC?

My SWAG would be that what you have is a cracked head and not a gasket failure. That is the common mode of failure for a SOHC head anyway and would explain why you still have oil in the water. It...

Re: transmission conversion???

Check car-part.com for the transmission and other pieces. Or find a car on craigslist with a blown engine and pick it up for ~$300. ...

Re: '95 SL2 manual shifter problem

That one is my preference for the cost. I personally have the metal one but currently use the delrin version on a temporary beater DD. Both will essentially be free of any play and last forever or...

Re: '95 SL2 manual shifter problem

Two screws down from the top in the back, plus the two front side kick panels which may or may not have screws behind/near them and the console is free. The boot and shifter knob can stay on IIRC. ...

Re: A/C tools and equipment

Please report back on how this works. Indiana summer + dark green car + r134a just does not even remotely cut it; but I've been too lazy to try it (yet).

Re: A/C tools and equipment

Get the kit with the electric pump as air compressor powered ones require substantial amounts of air. Big box of green o-rings is nice as is the light, but not entirely necessary depending on what...

Re: To continue to fix, or to let it be.

I'd do a quick and dirty paint job (after cleaning off all the rust) just to keep the metal parts from rotting through and fix anything affecting driveability. Windows and headliner are easy to get...

Re: A/C: moldy smell, no apparent condensation

There is a drain that is clogged. Richpin06a has a video on youtube about how to clean it IIRC.

If you want to disassemble your dash you can hose the evaporator down with HVAC coil cleaner but I...

Re: Poly bushings for torque strut.

You may or may not get more vibration from the poly torque mounts. FWIW I didn't notice any difference. Rigidly holding the engine in place was what I did notice and quite enjoyed about them. Good...
