Re: 22 years!

Oh yeah, the 95 Saturn SL1 in 05 [116,000 miles, and the reason for the ION] I bought and gave to my brother about 10 years ago just returned from a trip to NC from Tucson with nearly 200,000 miles...

Re: 22 years!

Keeping my 05 ION [bought new, 71-72,000 miles] and planning a maintenance/ preventive replacement schedule for 2020 and 2025.

I have had one car for 38 years and the...

Re: Engine and Transmission Mounts

Thanks. It sounds about right. My 86 Olds Calais does exactly the same and has done it before so it's recognizable. Putting it in neutral at a stop light smooths everything out. Getting them done...

Did you have any...

Re: 2000 LS1 Dilemma

Ha! Just did the same thing to an 86 Olds Calais my brother gave me last year [I first bought it in 94 with 21,000 miles on it].

Took it on a trip to and from Salt Lake City this month. It turned...

Re: 06 Ion Roof Trim Molding Strip Replacement

If you are referring to the roof rails, no, they are not. They use a star like screw driver, one that comes in many computer tool kits.

Open the door. Above your head you can see the screws and...

Re: My 05 quad just hit 300k, want to keep running good!

Had to replace the entire filler neck assembly for the same problem. New gas cap [AC Delco] made the light go away for awhile, but it came back.

Only real problem I have had in 14 years. Well that...

Re: How good are 5 speed automatic transmission in 2004 Saturn ION

They have been used in many Toyotas as it is, IIRC a subsidiary of that company and providers of automatics for other car manufacturers as well.

The 5 speed in the S Series is light, immediately...

Re: Your Transmission story

What have you been told already? Prices? New, used, rebuilt or
remanufactured [there's a difference] ? That would be very interesting for you to relate.

The GM 4 speed auto replaced the 5 speed...

Re: Will Saturns be classic cars?

Exactly. Rolling curiosity.

Part of the reason I scored the "blue bubble roof rails and interior trim for my ION.

Have you ever seen these in the wild ?

I'll be like the the old Uncle still...

Re: Will Saturns be classic cars?

There will always be a following.

There are still collectors of Studebakers, AMCs, Hudsons and Nashes. Even Yugos and Trabants have their fans.

I never thought I would see the day repro...

Re: LED Headlights in Ion Housing

So funny. I just replaced my headlight units with the same units as you got from Amazon.

I used Sylvania Xtravision.

And I like the looks better, the headlight buckets are much better...

Re: Adding side curtain airbags to 2007 Ion 3

And didn't increase passenger protection very much according to IIHS and NHTSA.

Went form "poor" to marginal", IIRC.

Re: clank in motor

I don't know, but I wouldn't drive it until it's diagnosed. It may be the timing chain from your description of the sound.

There are You Tube videos documenting the sound of a timing chain going...

Re: 2004 ION 5 Speed Automatic

Used by other manufacturers as well.

Switched to GM 4 speed auto in 05 which worked a lot better.

Many complained about "shift flare" and feel. Many were re-programmed.

Other than that, it's...

Re: Where do these wires go? 2005 Ion 2

Glad you got it sorted.

Sorry to hear your car was laid up. I've admired it for years. The color is not common and the mods you have made are tasteful and subtle.

Re: body panel swap

I've seen a Quad with the sedan nose running around here, locally.

The only fitment problem is the sedan front doesn't quite match the lines of the coupe at the mirror area. Otherwise it doesn't...

Re: Need new tires

That1man: I think that's the correct way to replace only a pair: new ones on the rear, older ones on the front.

The reason for that escapes me at the moment.

Here is a link with some valuable...
