Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.
My best guess is that there was an orifice in the head that plugged and prevented lifters from bleeding down properly. They only had it in their shop for about 1-1/2 hr, but I suppose they could...

Re: 2001 SW2 hesitation
This is the best I've found so far. the diagram in reply #2 shows the pin-out. A and E are the coil and B-C-D are the pot connections.
I am getting the feeling from other threads I found that...

Re: 2001 SW2 hesitation
Check the coil and pot resistance with an ohmmeter. It is easy to do, you don't have to remove the EGR valve to see if the pot is open-circuit. If you find an obvious fault with the coil or pot...

Re: 2001 SW2 hesitation
Did blocking the EGR ports eliminate the hesitation, along with making it seem to have more power?
If all is better with the EGR flow completely blocked, then any cleaning/reaming/blowing of the...

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.
"So they replaced the engine under warranty?"
No, or not likely, at least.
They towed it from my garage and called 2 hours later saying it was ready to pick up. They said nothing was wrong, it...

Re: 1997 SW2 Crank but no start, stuck on wiring.
Pull the plugs to let them dry out and check compression. If compression is OK, then pull the injector fuse (that prevents fuel during priming as well as cranking, the "throttle down" does not) and...

Re: 99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd
You have low-Z injectors driven by drivers intended for high-Z? They will work OK (not perfect, dead-time will be a bit wrong) for a while, but will eventually fail due to over-heating of the coil. ...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
Yeah, lots of confusion here. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The meaning of firing order never changes, no matter what the engine type is. Cylinder numbering order or order of plug wires on a cap or...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?
Not so strange. There would probably be no (knock sensor) code as long as some signal is reported to the PCM. False triggering, like from a banging idler, would be a "normal" knock. When you...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?
Nope. Under heavy load (accel, high MAP) the spark advance will be reduced.
Rather than a goat, how about a scanner that yields better live-data?
You might try disconnecting the knock...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?
How are you reading that retard, with live-data? Doesn't the live-data identify if it is "knock retard" or "knock detected"? Also watch MAP, see if that if flaky. spark advance is primarily...

Re: 97 sl2 ecm question
What codes are being set? Check before you start out, to see if everything is really being reset. Then check again at the end of the driveway, when the CEL first comes on; and check after it has...

Re: battery vs. alternator
No, the radio operation is not a definitive indication of alternator condition.
Were you unable to perform the AC voltage test, or did it come up with essentially zero VAC? If zero, was that on a...

Re: battery vs. alternator
Try reading battery voltage, with the engine running at a "fast idle" (~2000 rpm), using an AC scale on the meter. If the AC voltage is much more than 1V, then the alternator probably has some bad...

Re: Is my starter blowing my IGN 3 fuse?
Certainly any short-to-ground in the PPL wire circuit could blow the fuse, but that range/safety switch is mostly plastic, so I wouldn't expect such a short there; but not impossible.

Re: Is my starter blowing my IGN 3 fuse?
Hmm, I suppose if the starter solenoid was shorted to ground or the winding was shorted to be very low resistance, and that 30A fuse supplies power to the ignition switch, then the shorted solenoid...

Re: Is my starter blowing my IGN 3 fuse?
Letting the "PPL wire" terminal short-circuit to the large terminal for the battery/alternator terminal would force the starter to be cranking all the time, and sure would not be good for the...
