Re: Headlight Restoration, how long will it last???

In agreement that replacing is the best method, as I had to sand and treat mine once every six months before I switched to using clear headlamp enclosures for both aesthetics and that issue. But I...

Re: Historical Vehicles? The future of the S-Series

I've been quietly biding my time with my '99 SL, accumulating some items I'd like to display with it at a car show in the future and, more recently, Saturn-specific memorabilia and 1999 brochures. It...

Re: Bolt on roof.

Okay, that's just cool to think about. Someone's got to try this if they haven't already. :D

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

Not now that both are filled with 93 octane. I've tried each day since putting the gas in both cars, and I haven't been able to recreate the sound at all.

I did grab a clip from the dash cam in my...

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

I can do this with a reverse-flow vacuum, perhaps over the weekend, if there isn't anything else I could check beforehand.

Thanks for the info, fdryer, definitely helps to understand how the...

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

Thanks to everyone for the responses, especially to billr for the detailed response to each question!

To answer a few points:

I've never done compression testing or beyond within that...

Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

I was raised to believe pinging isn't a problem. Most of the vehicles I've owned in my life have been from the 80s and 90s. All of them were rated for 87 octane, and all but one of them pinged when...

Re: Door sensor broke!

Finally got around to replacing the switch, but found out something interesting. Just wanted to let second-gen owners know that the door jam switch is not accessible from the back side through the...

Re: Source for OEM top mount?

Can confirm: I bought one just a few weeks ago from the same seller. They're legit, in good condition, and work phenomenally.

Re: FS: 1999 Saturn SL

Removed the sound equipment and reinstalled the factory stereo, but left the speakers, sub amp kit, dash cam, and headlight housings / bulbs installed. Continue to ignore the price listed on the...

FS: 1999 Saturn SL

Thinking about selling Sally. I financed a 2011 Sonata last year with the intent of signing it over to my partner, but stuff happened, yada yada -- basically the usual story. Decided to keep the...

Re: Does my 2000 SW2 have ABS

Correct. You can also see here (http://www.saturnfans.com/Cars/s-seriesmodelchanges.shtml) that from 1999 on forward, all Saturn S-Series' came with rear drums, regardless of ABS.

Re: Best aftermarket motor mounts?

I can confirm that both the Westar and the old DEA A2827 mounts suck. They're great at first and when the weather is warm, but as others have noted, the solid design is really only good if you don't...

Re: steering column mechanisms seems sloppy.

I know that it's normal on my '99 SL, on my roommate's '98 SL1, and a few S-series cars between '96-'02 that I've driven over the past few years. Hasn't ever seemed to cause an issue, just seems...

Re: Where the heck is the cruise control electrical connector

It is true. Nearly twenty years since the S-series was discontinued, it's hard to find someone who knows this procedure, let alone a dealership willing to take on the responsibility. But keep up the...

Re: Where the heck is the cruise control electrical connector

Chevy, Cadillac, or any affiliated dealership that happens to have a Tech-II on hand. The first dealership I went to, a Chevy dealership, sounded like it would work out; told them what I wanted done,...

Re: Any tricks to removing rear spoiler?

While this is true, I've done both paint work myself by the book and had Maaco tackle a whole car of my own with one of their pricier options, and neither route got me within the ballpark -- not even...

Re: Vehicle Identification location(s)

Good info; didn't think about this in the context of stolen property. However, there's a much easier, 21st century way to check the law. Here's the link for New York:...

Re: Vehicle Identification location(s)

Since all years of the Saturn S-series are considered a classic in many states at this point, I’m not sure how much the legitimacy of VIN plates on the car weighs in today – either in your state...

Re: Amsoil Weirdness

Now that I could see being the issue. I made sure to clean the area around the dipstick thoroughly before removing it prior to draining, and once again after removing and replacing it post-fill. I'll...

Re: Amsoil Weirdness

Admittedly, I'm still running on the original shift cable, though it's never given me an issue before, and it seems strange the problem would crop up right after the fluid change. In any case, I can...

Re: Amsoil Weirdness

Some threads I read suggest filling to the full mark can inhibit shifting at times, which is the issue I'm having now, hence my own confusion.
