Need a new catalytic converter

My independent shop diagnosed a CEL light on my 2008 Astra ( 140,000 kms ) - they claim I need a new catalytic converter ( CC ).

- can I source this CC in the aftermarket somewhere - or - do I...

Re: Where is everyone from?

You're lucky.

Environment Canada has issued a freakin' frost advisory warning for parts of southern Ontario yesterday - including a town just about 15 minutes north of me.

Re: Bad coilpack, VERY expensive part

Hmmm...I'm only abut 10,000 kms from hitting that mark.

Guess I'm due for my failed coil any time now !:tear:

Re: Brake Fluid Flush

I dunno.

My shop just tests my fluid each oil change and when it get close to 2% moisture or so, they'll just recommended new fluid - i.e every 2 or 3 years or so ?

I suppose you could go Dot...

Re: Bad coilpack, VERY expensive part

Geez...all this talk of ' funky ' coils is so depressing.

At 125,000 kms now and - knock on wood - no coil issues .......yet.

But I must say, I feel like I've got a freakin' tickin' time...

Re: Bad coilpack, VERY expensive part

Been wondering......why do our coil packs seem to ' die ' so early ?

- i.e most of my other vehicles have gone to 250,000 kms - 300,000 km and never had any coil issues.

Re: lowering springs?

Perhaps

Mind you, given how day to day life gets in the way, the number of times you'd be dong that ( driving in some nice twisty country road ) would be few and far between..at least IMO. So, you...

Re: How about gas mileage?

Bit of an illogical argument IMO, cause any margin of error stemming from ' estimated ' vs ' real ' mpg differences is going to be about the same for both

Re: lowering springs?

I can see that.

But then again, I'm guessing there is only so much performance you can expect from the rather anemic 1.8 L engines we have ( i.e same size engine you'd find in say a Corolla or...

Re: Transmission flush

The generic ' rule of thumb ' maintenance guideline I see cited most often is to replace 100% of your tranny fluid ( auto or manual ) every 50,000 kms / 30,000 miles

Re: lowering springs?

Still a bit unclear on this.

What is the purpose / benefit of lowering our Astra's exactly ?

Primarily for cosmetic / aesthetic reasons ...or is it more performance related ?

Re: Transmission flush

Is it a 3X ' drain and fill ' or do they use a machine based fluid exchange ?

How many miles on your Astra ?

Re: How about gas mileage?

Yup...I think the rated highway mpg for the 2008 XR Astra 4 door sedan is about 32 mpg.

The same 1.8 L engine size for a 2008 Corolla has a rated highway mpg of 37 mpg.

Now, the fact that the...

Re: How about gas mileage?

Well, awhile back, the Canadian Driver site tested some 2008 compacts for ' strictly highway ' fuel economy.

They got 4.9 L/100 km with a 2008 auto Corolla & 5.3 L/100 km for a 2008 manual Civic...

Re: How about gas mileage?

Not surprised.

If you read a lot of the reviews of the Astra both when and after they came out, one of the ' cons ' you often saw cited was the ' so so ' fuel economy it got compared to some other...

Re: Motor Issue

fwiw......another member ( believe it was ' AstraLover ' ) got an OEM coil pack shipped to N.America for $160 from lmf vauxhall in the UK.

To get OEM ?

Probably worth the extra $80 or so IMO.
