Re: Whats your MPG?
Not sure if this has been discussed here before, but here's my math for calculating highway vs city based on average speed (which is useless on an S-series because it doesn't offer a readout for...

Re: What will be Your next car
I've owned my SVT Focus for about 6 years now, and we love it. 151,000 miles, a load of fun, and virtually problem-free. We test-drove a new 2014 Focus last month while car-shopping, but went with...

Re: What will be Your next car
Hey, a little late to this thread, but we just got my wife into a 2013 Abarth. It's a ridiculous barrel of monkeys to drive, and makes me grin like an idiot every time I drive it. Who knows what kind...

Re: Whats your MPG?
Higher octane fuels resist combustion. They are designed for high heat or high compression situations where regular unleaded would pre-detonate and cause knocking.
Using high-octane fuel in your...

Re: Whats your MPG?
This sub-zero weather is killing me. The last 2 fillups have netted me 26.5 MPG each due to my relatively short commute. I drive all the way to work (just over 5 miles) and the engine never makes it...

Re: Whats your MPG?
I can't touch that.
My daily commute is only 5-6 miles one-way, and it's all city streets, so I'm averaging 28-29 MPG in the SL1.
It just SIPS gas on the highway though... on the odd occasion...

Re: Troubleshooting intermittent airbag light
Finally got around to examining things yesterday.
Pulled the fuse, removed the driver's side airbag. Unplugged everything. Wiggled and tweaked all of the connections under the bag, and along the...

Re: Troubleshooting intermittent airbag light
Thanks, gents.
I was indeed using a professional-grade code reader that did reveal the code "B-whatever" for this. Sorry I can't remember the exact number. I guess I assumed that since there is...

Troubleshooting intermittent airbag light
2001 SL1. Airbag light is on - sometimes. It comes and goes, seemingly with no rhyme or reason. Turning the wheel has no effect. Temperature has no effect. It comes and goes as it pleases.
I...

Re: Whats your MPG?
EXACTLY. Your engine gets much greater volumetric efficiency with wide-open throttle. But once you rev over 2500 or 3000, you're really using a lot of fuel. So the best technique is lots of throttle,...

Re: Whats your MPG?
My parents have been driving mine since I bought the Mustang, and consequently it just recorded its best tank since I've owned it - 37.7, mostly city driving. I suck at fuel economy.

Re: SOHC vs. DOHC
My 2001 SL1 is basically the same, although since its a last-gen model, the bumpers are painted.

Re: SOHC vs. DOHC
I don't like the unpainted bumpers either - but the point is moot on the 2000+ models, where even the SL1 got body-colored bumpers. You have to REALLY cheap out on that generation to end up with an...

Re: SOHC vs. DOHC
I say it depends on what you want out of it.
The twin-cam cars are definitely a lot more fun, what with their 25% power advantage. But both of mine were oil burners. I found that they did require...

Re: 01 SL1 - no cluster backlight
Problem solved.
I grabbed a handful of cluster bulbs at the Yard today. Replaced the two "theater light" bulbs and the odometer bulb, and everything works as normal.
Strange they all three...

Re: 01 SL1 - no cluster backlight
Pulled the dimmer switch and let it sit with the parking lights on for a while last night, no change. So next step, unless I get other suggestions, will be dropping in some new bulbs.
Thanks so...

Re: 01 SL1 - no cluster backlight
Putting the shroud back on does involve a nice rap with the flat of your hand, to seat it correctly. It's entirely possible that caused bulb failure.
I'll grab a handful of cluster bulbs next time...

Re: 01 SL1 - no cluster backlight
Right, I guess "backlight" was a misleading term.
The bottom line is, I can't see ANYTHING on the cluster at night. Total darkness. There are no theatre lights and no odometer lights (you can...

01 SL1 - no cluster backlight
Cant figure this one out yet, and all the search results are different than what I'm seeing.
Previous owner had some sort of device crammed under the dash top; probably a remote start sensor or a...

Re: How much did you pay for your Saturn
Hi Bryan!
Yes, we traded the SW2 in on the SVT Focus a few years ago. I sold my XR4Ti project car last winter, so I was in need of another winter car, and I saw that as my excuse to get back into...
