Re: How to tell that you own a Saturn S

You find yourself wishing you had extra time to go check out the junkyard this weekend - for fun, not because you need any parts for the Saturn :D

Re: Lawnmower Burning Oil

I had a brain-fart and thought my riding mower was around 6~8 hp. I checked on Sunday, it's 17hp.

I think for the price of that 22 hp and the time it would need to swap out, I would just spend...

Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

Post your location. Might be someone here who is willing to watch you work while eating your pizza and drinking your beer :D

Re: Intermittent Starting Issue

When it fails to start, it cranks normally, just does not "catch" and start/run?

I would check the positive cable in the middle - you sometimes get corrosion in the middle even though the ends...

Re: Clear lens headlights

Maybe check with the community college or university art department and see if they have glass blower?

Local artist or craftsperson might be willing to blow a clear glass lens for you.

It's a...

Re: Stranded? Battery light?

+1, had nothing to add to the excellent advice here, but been watching with baited breath. :)

I've been lucky, have only had an alternator go out on me once, back in '80s (and that may have been a...

Re: Lawnmower Burning Oil

We're not talking push mowers. (A few folks mentioned push mowers in the context of how long they have been running)

Cheap lawn tractors are $1,200~1,500, last time I looked. :)

I paid about...

Re: Anyone know the flow direction for the fuel filter? Wix 33731

Sounds like a fun swap :D

Little more power than this minor transmission conversion, but this owner's emphasis was on MPG

Re: Lawnmower Burning Oil

+1 for just adding oil.

This thread reminded me that my cheap MTD riding mower is about the same age. No idea on the hours since it does not have a meter of any kind.

I've changed the oil...

Re: "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light on my 2002 SC2

Considering how important certain sensors are (e.g., ECTS, CPS, etc.), I would get the code read (write down the number, Pxxxx, ignore the words) and take any advice from the auto parts store guy...

What year is the car? Removing the steering wheel is generally not considered a difficult task. This video shows 2nd gen removal

Re: Is this a timing chain noise?

The timing chain tensioner is only adjusted by the oil pressure. It is ratcheting mechanism so will retain tension without oil - it just won't self-adjust for wear.

Yes, that was the chain. But...

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

Yep, was going to get back here to SF and mention that the Extended is likely a grp 3/ grp 4 blend, but caught a bad cold and have been out of it mentally the last few days, and you beat me to it. :)...

Re: 2002 Saturn SC2 carpet

The coupe seatbelts are held on at the bottom by a metal arm. The arm is held onto the frame (through the carpet) by a T50 bolt, so you will need a T50 bit for your ratchet.

The T50 bolt is...

Re: Is this a timing chain noise?

Sorry, I missed this bit earlier when I skimmed through your post

You don't get the rattle if you stop the car for, say, 15 minutes, an hour or two, then start it up again?

This suggests...

Re: Is this a timing chain noise?

Didn't look at the videos, but timing chain noise typically does not go away.

With a cold engine, remove the serpentine belt. Start the car and if there is no noise, it is one of the pulleys or...

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

They are using marketing terms like "advanced" that don't have a real meaning, so it is easy to be confused. :)

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

Depends on how much you are watching every dollar. :)

Around here, SuperTech has been lowered to $15 for a 5 qt jug - $3 per quart, at the low end of what VUEmaniac mentioned. So, you could look...
