Re: p0420 code

I hoped this gets rid of your problem. But wait a couple more days before closing the book.

My current car (02 Altima 2.5) has had a persistent p0420 since about ten days after I got it. Once...

Re: Spark Plug Wires

If NAPA Premium is still the blue Belden Max then I'd go with that. But they will cost nearly double of the private label budget wires, so not necessarily the right choice if it's just to see you...

Re: Saturn SL2 windshield/dashboard rattle

I think it was discussed here a few years ago and concluded at that time that GM changed to the inferior mount for a couple of years but later reversed that decision (because of all the problems) and...

Re: 2000 Saturn SL - Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

mostapasta, did you always have that press or did you obtain it just because you have an S-series?

Re: 2001 SC1 Foaming Coolant. Head Gasket?

BTW I also vote for a pro Dexcool 70:30 mix going forward if the owner continues to drive his Saturn.

Some years ago I was sold on this by some discussions on this board, so when my T-Stat went...

Re: 2001 SC1 Foaming Coolant. Head Gasket?

I understand what Signmaster is saying from the diagnostic point of view. But on the other hand .... we're talking about pouring in coolant after all, it's not THAT much effort is it?

As for...

Re: Saturn SL2 windshield/dashboard rattle

I thought dashboard noises were just a mandatory part of the experience of owning an S-series? Especially in cold weather, when they are complemented with the noises from the headliner, door panels...

Re: Sub Zero Temps!!! Long Warm up.

I'm not sure the 0W always guarantees thinner in real-life cold weather. My Saturn loved GC 0W30 for 3 seasons bit it wasn't quite as good in the winter compared to Syntec 5W30. The initial start...

Re: Sub Zero Temps!!! Long Warm up.

Syntec 5W30 was great for my cold weather starts. Even better with 5W30 & 5W20 in a 3:1 mix during the late November to mid-March period.

I was lucky in that my Saturn didn't really burn oil. ...

Re: Do Saturns eat oil?

I don't believe my SC1 ever consumed any significant amounts of oil. I did need to add about 2 qts over 3500-4000 miles but I believe virtually all of it was from steady sweating through the Oil Pan...

Re: Do Saturns eat oil?

Didn't SAAB dealers in the USA actually adopt induction cleaning through a vacuum like (using the BG system) as part of the recommended sludge management for those cars? I thought there was even a...

Re: L curious

For a person looking at an LS as a temporary band aid car, are there any tell-tale signs (either sounds or driveability symptoms) which might betray that the dreaded Fuel Gauge / Fuel Pump problem...

Re: L curious

Probably to make DIY'ers regret working on it themselves and to jack up the labor hours when for those who take it to a GM dealer.

Re: Head gasket or worse?

Does that mean that the slow coolant loss is total coincidence and should not cast a more troubling light on the incidents?

Thread revival ... sort of, now that there may be a few more years of collective wisdom & experience with this matter, and seeing as I might be in the market for a used Ion:

I am wondering if...

Re: wood trim

Yeah, I can appreciate it on a very stately luxury car, but an S-Series seems so ... not-wood, for lack of a better term.

Information Walmart Canada now carries Purolator & Bosch filters

Already posted on the Canadian Owner's forum bust as that page seems to get fewer visits ithought I'd mention it here as well.

Information Walmart Canada now selling Purolator & Bosch filters.

As some of you may have seen or read elsewhere, Walmart stores (at least here in the Greater Toronto Area) have been selling Purolator & Bosch filters recently.

The Bosch and Purolator "classic"...

Re: T-stat questions, 99 SL2

At first read, to me it sounds like it's running a little too cold, because my 94 was usually at 1/2 warmed up and between 3/5 & 3/4 in slow stop & go traffic.

My friend's 97 was exactly the same...

Re: 1995 SL-2 Belt/Tensioner pulley problem

Aren`t there multiple belt sizes for the S series? I thought the correct belt varies depending on how many accessories it runs?

Presumably the biggest one for models with PS and AC, smaller one...

Re: Torque increases

In addition to the lighter wheel setup, a slightly shorter diameter should make the car a tad easier to move off the line.

Re: Fram is evil

That is some horrid build quality on top of the cynical design.

However, to be entirely fair, Fram does have a premium filter line - XG - which would compare alot more closely to other brands.
