Re: Coil spring brand suggestions?
and then, a year and a half later...
The rub was being caused by uneven ride height. The moog spring/kyb strut combo is a little bit higher than factory, at least on gen-3s. This against the...

Re: Phase-out of R-134a
My GE CFLs are going on 9 years. No, they weren't 99 cents each. You get what you pay for. A good option for frequent on/off spots is the soft-white halogen bulbs they make now. They handle...

Re: Dorman oil pan yes or no
That's just sloppy. 90% of cars and light trucks are 1 of 4 socket sizes and it takes 5 seconds to remove a drain plug.

Re: Purpose of piston soak?
It's an attempt to get some of this off of your pistons and rings:

Re: Help for replacing water pump
If you have a low torque impact a wobble extension (extension with a narrow end so the socket can wobble a bit, parts stores have them) makes removing those bolts the easiest part of the job.

Re: What oil do you run and why
Amsoil HDD or Signature since 65k with 7k OCI as an attempt to mitigate the coked rings issue. Approaching 100k and burning no oil.

Re: Look out.. Female coming through!
Do you mean the plastic looms that keep the wires separate? Because it's somewhat important that the wires don't touch each other, that's why the looms are there.

Re: Pre-emptive Water Pump R&R?
The main argument for not replacing as a preventative measure is aftermarket water pumps for the S in general seem to have a higher than normal defective part rate.
Still going strong on my Bosch...

Re: 97 Saturn Rattle/Noise Coming from Engine
For the record the belt removal technique is perfectly safe so long as you don't go over 2 min, it's unlikely you will even need 1. There are a couple of things that can transfer vibration into the...

Re: broken coil spring
Known problem with 3rd gens (like mine). If you need to remove the strut for some reason it's a worthy preventative measure to replace the springs or the entire strut assembly.

Re: water pump on borrowed time
FWIW I'm 5k on the bosch pump now. No slow leak out of the weep hole or anything like that. Only oddity was it made this whining sound occasionally the first couple hundred miles.

Re: Ugh gf put diesel in the saturn
Considering .25% of cars in the US are diesel, I'm not surprised people accidentally fill them with gas. "Check if it's a diesel" isn't really engrained in the mind of the average automotive...

I don't think they ever shipped without dexcool from the factory. My 02 came with it, replete with the use dexcool or your car will implode into a small cube warning.

Re: 'Loaded' Struts $170 each, are they serious ?
The bounce test isn't effective for these cars; my car passed the test with completely dead struts, and I'm not the first to experience this. The symptoms I had were the car would sway a bit over an...

Re: Failed emissions-rings, guides, price?
A legitimately rebuilt engine in a car that's otherwise well taken care of should last a while. A replacement 150k mile used car every emissions cycle might not be as economical.

How far off is it? It should almost but not quite clear the outer cv joint. A 3-4 foot piece of iron pipe over the end of the prybar will get you some extra leverage.
If you compress the spring...
