Re: WTB: O.E. Airbox/Intake pieces

Unfortunately only the 00-02 DOHC pieces will work (or I wouldn't be having such a difficutl time obtaining them).

FS: 1993 DOHC head w/ flat faced valves

I have a 1993 DOHC head from a car that was totaled with 60,000 miles on it. I dismantled the head, cleaned it thoroughly, and reassembled it with new stem seals.

The guides were still slop free...

Re: Head bolt question

In my opinion, using new ones without the correct pre-torquing procedure is just as risky as using old ones (in terms of improper clamp load). Obviously they can only be used so many times or the...

Re: Head bolt question

Do you guys who use new ones every time follow the 47 lb-ft dry thread torque procedure prior to installing the head?

I typically use a new set (they're only 25 bucks from rock auto BTW), but I...

Head bolt question

For saturn headbolts, the torque procedure includes a final 90 degree step, indicating that the bolts are possibly torque to yield.

However, having reviewed the FSM instructions on "using new...

Re: Intake manifold

The stock aluminum manifold is terrible.
The plastic one is worse.

There is more flow locked up in the intake manifold than even the terribly designed head.

Tips for a good manifold:
Lots of...

Freebie flat tops

I guess "freebie" is a bit of a misnomer. It'd be more appropriate to say that there was less money spent than forged slugs...and I can use the long rods. They're damn light too. Either way,...

Re: Bore/stroke question

In general, usually stroking has greater benefits than boring given the same increase in displacement. It does make your rod ratio worse however.

Disadvantages of boring include: weaker sleeves,...

Re: Motor Swap to GSXR-1300

The blown 3800. It makes stout numbers (compared to a handful of smaller naturally aspirated 4 cylinders). If you want to discuss HP/Weight (pertanent when considering swapping to a 1300 for...

Re: Motor Swap to GSXR-1300

Aah someone beat me to the ol K series punch.

A K can make 300 HP (crank) at 2L naturally aspirated for many many more miles than a Gixxer motor can make its peak output for (at a weight penalty,...

Re: 2000-2002 cams

Oh yeah, the 99+ motors not only have longer rods (lower piston acceleration), the rods and pistons are substantially lighter than previous years (2/3 of a pound in the pistons and rods). The...

Re: 2000-2002 cams

You can get any part for any engine at any time. "On the shelf" should never be a deciding factor. This applies especially in the world of absolutely pathetic "Saturn aftermarket" offerings.

Re: PLXM 300 WBO2 Setup

Heated sensors are typically rated to 750 C. Pressure sensitivity is vastly more significant than the temperature of the exhauast gas (which is negligible if you are within the published operating...

Re: PLXM 300 WBO2 Setup

My Tech Edge w/ VW sensor is doing fine and has been for some time. The sensors are typically rated to about 750 C (about 1400 F). That's a rather hot EGT (when taken at the flange)...so down at...

Re: Update

Zakspeed and BMW used 1 turbo to achieve outputs of 800-1100 HP (very unreliable) with only 1.5 L of displacement (iron block 4 cylinders with ITBs).

Boost values peaked at about 5.5 bar.

Re: 95\99 swap queiston?

Block=yes. The 99 unit is only about 2.5-3 lbs heavier and much more robust (they removed weight from some places and put it to use elsewhere).

Head=no. The 99 head is geometrically different. ...

Re: PLXM 300 WBO2 Setup

Yep...and don't forget to Hook up the narrow band emulation wire (your WB has one right?) to the old NB plug going to the stock Saturn ECU.

Re: PLXM 300 WBO2 Setup

Needs to go close to the head (the closer the better). The stock location is a great spot as it sees all 4 cylinders and is pretty close to the ports.

The NB sensor sticks off the exhaust...
