Re: Aftermarket Piston: proper oil drainage

I just can't believe Saturn never added them with any of the piston re-designs over the years either. Especially the new pistons in '99.

Re: Piston Replacement

You guys got it all wrong. Chromoly. It is sweet stuff, my race bike is made of it. lol

But seriously, the top rings are coated with chrome or chromoly aren't they? Since it can be...

Re: Car Shakes at stop and clutch pushed in?'

The hydraulics are almost never 100% anymore after someone's replaced the clutch. You have to be very careful to disconnect the clutch pedal and pull the cylinder out and attach the retainer in...

Re: Intermediate Axle Support Bearing Bad?

I've found the output shaft bearing to be bad. For some reason the plastic retainer that holds the roller needles shattered, so the rollers were not aligned very well. The differential bearings get...

Re: Intermediate Axle Support Bearing Bad?

From my experience, that bearing will howl, loudest under light deceleration in 4th gear. Although, similar sounds can also originate from within the transmission, but are more muffled. I don't...

Re: Car Shakes at stop and clutch pushed in?'

I'd guess the clutch is probably worn out. The clutch disc bounces around and shutters at a stop in first gear. Is it difficult to shift into 1st gear at a dead stop? I'm sure a new clutch kit...

Re: Head gasket reuse

Psh, I've seen head gaskets run for a few thousand miles and then reused lol - can't say whether they last many years after though.

The only thing you would be looking at is whether the coolant...

Re: Typical CatCon failure

Doesn't it say something in the manual about the exhaust overheating when you are parked idling for a long time? I remember it being all like: "Do not idle engine for extended periods of time or...

Re: RPM drops too low on stop in cold weather

I notice it too every once in a while. Pushing in the clutch at a stop sign, the engine speed will drop to 600 RPM or so and gets all shaky likes it's going to stall but then resumes idle. Doesn't...

Re: Why 19 mpg?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. And yes the car is in top condition. But I do think it's the extra idling mostly, and the fuel it chugs before it is warm.

Snow tires are also really sticky on the...

Re: Jerkiness

Does your engine hesitate when you put your foot on the gas? That's the problem I'm having, before the engine gets hot.

Just sitting in neutral idling, when I blip the throttle it stalls out and...

Re: Which O2 sensor 1996 SL manual SOHC 214,000 miles

I think I'll probably go ahead and order a Denso, it's the cheapest anyways. Hopefully the retail ones are still made in Japan...

Re: "Special Edition" 1st gen sedan?

Someone may have made it. A Saturn retailer may have even had it done.

Re: Which O2 sensor 1996 SL manual SOHC 214,000 miles

I don't like Bosch either, but I'm still not sure what to get.

I've ordered one from Saturn before and it says Denso - Made in Japan and it seems pretty nice. Is that what Saturn uses, Denso?

Re: Looking for junk head

I have a '96 DOHC that is warped beyond repair. I did drill a few holes in it however to measure the wall thickness of the exhaust ports for porting on another head. I also have a collection of...

Re: large mpg change...

WOW, I have measured every single tank refill since I have owned my car, and I almost always fill 10 gallons at a time. I've only refilled about 130 times so far, but I have gotten anything from...

Ha, that's interesting. I'd agree it almost seems to use that much fuel when it's below zero!

Re: Discontinued parts headache

They (did) sell the RIA kit. The module package came with the wiring, operating guide, instruction card, sticker, module and two remotes. For '95 I also need the relay, clip, and diode.

Crap, I...

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement Interval

The owner's handbook for my '95 says 60k miles. Last time I changed one, and tipped it upside down, all this nasty dark crud poured out.

Re: Head bolt heater

It's just a little slot in the head it hooks into. Otherwise just measure the difference between blocks and add that length to the bolt it comes with and find some bushings or a bunch of washer or...

Re: Discontinued parts headache

I like going to the junkyard, but the parts are non-existant or insanely expensive. But I guess I will stock up when I visit Utah again this summer.

I searched for 5 months looking for just a...

Discontinued parts headache

Unfortunately I think about 90% of S-series replacement parts are no longer manufactured by Saturn seems. I placed an order at Saturnparts.com and the majority of it was discontinued.

However,...
