Re: engine help???

Compression test would be first order of business.

Then check for vacuum leak around the intake and injector.

Motor Mount

So after a question here about motor mounts and knowing my cheap-o frowny mount would prob be ready for replacement sometime in the not so distant future I was looking at rockauto.

I found a DEA...

Re: Sl1 engine rebuild

Yes repeat the oil prime but not for the reason of priming the oil system but more for listening for strange noises. I'd start with plugs out and then repeat with plugs in and fuel pump relay pulled...

Re: Sl1 engine rebuild

Take a deep breath... probably nothing that bad.

Oil being cloudy, it's probably just the assembly lube you used.

While the valve cover is off Definitely take the belt off and rotate the engine...

Re: Coil problem? 2001 SL1

So pull all the spark plug wires off the coils and have someone crank the car while watching the coils. They should spark between the two towers on each coil and it should look like a lightening bolt...

Re: Cylinder Sleeves

My current engine was bored .020 over and now has over 300k on it. When it blew the headgasket recently the cylinders still looked good with crosshatch visable. Zero oil use to date.

Re: 94 sc2 having engine problems

Run a compression test first. Nothing will help if you have a cylinder with low compression.

Re: How to "fix" muffler strap

you don't need the oem hanger unless it has an oem muffler. all the aftermarket mufflers are slightly different in size which requires the aftermarket hanger/strap assy which is listed for $23 at my...

Re: Saturn Sc1 1998 stalls out on highway

I'd replace the crank position sensor. If that didn't do it then I'd replace the ignition module.

Re: Dual quad in a saturn

F15's, F18's, MQ-25, and T-7 currently plus a laundry list of others to a lesser extent. I also do a lot of repairs and modification type work on in-fleet aircraft.

Re: Idle then dies but doesn't

May have had a piece of carbon stuck in the egr valve, few drops of water in the gas, or the aic valve stuck for a second. I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless it becomes a regular thing.

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

replaced a worn out wiper motor.

This is one of the few jobs on a saturn that just sucks. Why they had to put 2 nuts that you have to get to from inside the car is beyond me.

Oh and then pulled...

Re: SOHC Model Years Head Crack Defect

Most of the really prone heads have already cracked at this point. Keep your temps under control. I never let mine get more than a needle width or two above the 1/2 mark.

You hear about cracks...

Re: Fuel Rail Replacement

My question is why do you think you need to replace the fuel rail? It's basically just a manifold that provides pressurized fuel to the injectors. No moving parts, nothing to wear out.

The round...

Re: 2002 Saturn SL2 problems

If you have no spark I'd look at the crankshaft position sensor first.

I'd start there because it's the less expensive part. Rev'ing makes me suspicious of the ICM.

Re: Leak at tb axle

The only time the TB shaft is an issue is when it becomes so worn the throttle plate doesn't close consistently.

Re: Head Bolts rounded off

If the head is coming off it needs a trip to the machine shop to be machined flat, valves touched up, etc. I wouldn't worry about the chips.

These bolts take enough to take out that welding a bolt...

I've replace the tensioner a number of time but the idler will outlast a tensioner by a factor of 2 or 3.

If you do replace the idler pulley be VERY careful removing it. It's very easy to break...
