Re: Slow coolant leak turned major!

Update:
Got the car home after stopping a total of 6 times for water. Turns out it was a cut in the upper radiator hose that rubbed against the battery tray until a slice opened up. The hose was...

Slow coolant leak turned major!

I'm writing this from the side of the freeway. I'm letting my 97 Saturn SL2 with 210,000 miles cool down and traffic to lighten up before attempting to add more coolant/water and drive the last 8...

Traded in Saturn in 2007. Spotted today 11 years later. PICS

In 2007 I traded in my 2002 SL1 with about 45,000 miles on the odometer.
In the previous years I had the rockers and mirrors painted to match, added SL2 spoiler, tinted the Windows, added 16" Motegi...

Re: got some subframes

I've heard of people shipping items by way of Greyhound bus at very reasonable prices. Not sure if the subframe is too large for the belly of a bus, but maybe worth checking in to. I know doors and...

Re: Electric Wrenches

We're you trying to replace the tensioner from up top (under the hood)?

Or did you have the passenger wheel and splash guards removed and were approaching it from inside the tire well?

Re: Hard to abandon a car that has been so good to me!

Thanks for all the input. It gave me some new angles to look and the pros and cons.

I thought of buying a dead Saturn (96-98 ) with a decent body/paint and transferring my drivetrain into it....

Hard to abandon a car that has been so good to me!

My 97 Saturn SL2 has been a wonderful car. I bought it used with 88,000 miles for $2995.
I've had it for over 10 years and drove it over 100,000 miles (now 188,000 miles on odometer).
I've always...

Re: Need advice on PCV elbows

I know some pcv valves are designed with a 90' bend. I was going to go to the wrecking yard a see if I can find something that will interchange. Then, a straight hose can be used without clearance...

Re: P0340/P0341 codes. New parts installed. Still bad..

You nailed it! Thank you very much!!!
I had the coil towers wires 1-4-2-3 which is wrong.
I switched them to the correct order 4-1-2-3 and it runs great. Maybe better than ever now. It seems to...

P0340/P0341 codes. New parts installed. Still bad..

This problem is on my 97 SL2 with a manual transmission and 185,000 miles on the odometer.

Past year or two it had slight hesitation problems on 3/4 to Full throttle on hills while under load. The...

Re: SL Hoods Interchange?

Last weekend I was going to do a "hood swap test fit" at the wrecking yard. But it was hot.....and I figure checking with Saturnfans would be easier.

They had a nice, mint condition black 3rd gen...

Re: SL Hoods Interchange?

Thanks for the info.

I think some drunks were wrestling outside the bar and landed on my car. Or somebody was having sex on the hood. IDK. But the next morning I woke up to a dented hood in a few...

SL Hoods Interchange?

Does anyone know if 2nd gen (96-99) SL hoods will interchange with 3rd gen (00-02) hoods?

Re: to buy or not to buy....

Being parked fom so long and in grass, I would worry about mice and rats chewing on the wires. Just another thing to consider when buying a sitting car.

Re: Am I pushing my Saturn too hard?

How much would I hate it if I just swapped entirely to the MP2 tranny? Or is swapping only the 5th gear the right way to go?

I know the Mp2 ratios are preferred by the turbo guy's but how...

Re: Am I pushing my Saturn too hard?

I do keep a pretty close eye on the oil cuz it does burn oil more faster at highway speeds. But it actually feels real smooth at highway speeds. Maybe I just got lucky with this last set of used...

Am I pushing my Saturn too hard?

Car: 97 Sl2 (w) 5 speed manual and about 174,000 miles on it.

So after work and warming it up on city streets for about 6-7 minutes, I then get on the highway and run it at about 80 mph for about...

Re: Sudden power drop (but intermittent)

Ok. Fuel filter is a good place to start. I replaced it but that was probably 70,000 miles ago lol. Egr valve will be another area if fuel filter doesn't fix it.
What about the possibility of a...

Sudden power drop (but intermittent)

Car:
97 SL2 with 5spd manual and 171,000 miles.

Problem:
In 2 weeks time since the problem surfaced, this has only happened twice for maybe 4-5 seconds, then returns to normal.
When...

Re: Overheating (losing my cool)

Update:
Went to Napa today and bought a new reservoir cap. Seems to have fixed the problem.

I let the car idle until it reached a little over 1/2 way on the temp gauge, fan kicked in, and...

Re: Overheating (losing my cool)

50/50 is what I've always used for last 15 years & 3 Saturns. Fyi: I live in moderate weather of Washington State.

Re: Overheating (losing my cool)

Ok. I'll try replacing the cap.

Also, I was checking the coolant reservoir over last night and noticed a hairline crack near the top of the reservoir. But, when it dumps water, no coolant or steam...

Re: '00 SL1 LS4 V8 Sleeper Project

The design of the s-series cradle seems like the biggest headache of trying to swap anything in these Saturn's.
How or what modifications did you do to overcome this?

I have a 97 SL2 with 170,000 miles.

History: Replaced cracked radiator with a new radiator, thermostat, and hoses 1 year ago. It has a brass ects but it's not new and was in the car when I bought...
