Re: New valve body - relearn question

Chazberry was correct. Bought both the input and output shaft nuts along with the gasket and had a local shop do the work.

Shifts into reverse as "smooth as buttah." Also softened the forward...

New valve body - relearn question

I installed a rebuilt valve body from Special Forces this evening.

I did this because my son's car has had the reverse slam problem for some time. We tried the Wolfman fix, but that didn't help....

Transmission clarification...

My son has a 2001 SL2. I think we have the "reverse slam" problem, and we have tried the "wolfman" fix AND replacing the ECTS.

Here's what happens.

When he shifts directly from drive to...

Re: Stabilizer bar / link

Yeah, I caught that on the other post, and I'm going to tear into it again and do that. It's just that replacing my son's (on his SL2) made such a huge difference that I would do it on my L300 if I...

Re: Stabilizer bar / link

Not in this case. I can actually hear it coming from the driver's side rear as I step out of the car. CREEEEAAAAAAK! :D

The L300 has a timing belt.

Re: Stabilizer bar / link

Actually, they show several front stabilizer links, and the last one shown says it's for the rear, but it definitely doesn't look right.

I might just tear into it and get really aggressive with...

Re: Stabilizer bar / link

C'mon, you suspension experts! :)

Can you replace the links, or do you have to buy the whole bar?

I'm pretty sure what I saw on Rockauto was incorrect, because it showed bolts on both ends.

Stabilizer bar / link

In a separate topic on the general forum, I mentioned that the rear suspension in my '02 L300 was creaking when I went over speed bumps or when I get out of the car.

Someone mentioned lubricating...

Re: Brake question

The only thing I can think of is that a little bit of the rubber seal around the piston was bulging out of the caliper, and I carefully took a screwdriver and stuck it back in. Otherwise, everything...

Brake question

I posted this question in the S-series forum, but posts just seem to get buried over there and this is a "general" question anyway.

Today, I installed new brake pads and rotors on my son's SL2. I...

Re: New brake question

I kind of think the caliper is ok as the braking is great and the squeaking stops when I brake then immediately starts.

When I say things were tight, I mean I had to tap the caliper on with a...

Re: Please help a worried Dad

Just wanted to followup and let you know we replaced the "dog bones" today with the Moog's and everything is great. I can't believe the difference!

One of the four nuts was frozen on and we wound...

New brake question

I put new brakes and rotors on my son's '02 SL2 today, and the driver's side went together really tight. (Yes, I used a C-clamp to compress the caliper.)

Now, that side squeaks a lot while...

Happy Re: Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Safety ?

Ex-GMTech,

I removed the rear stabilizer bar from both sides, and cleaned and lubed the bar and rubber bushing that is held by a steel bracket. I could slide the bushing to the side, clean off...

Re: How do I use jack stands?

Where do I find the safe jacking/lifting points for my 2002 Saturn L300? I looked in the Haynes Manual, and it wasn't there. I also looked in the Owner's Manual and didn't find it.

By the way,...

Question How do I use jack stands?

I've done a lot of stuff to cars, but I've never used jack stands. I'm thinking about doing some minor suspension work to both of my Saturns in the coming weeks, and I think it would be smart to get...

By the way, rc1488, thank you for the reply. I forgot to say that!

Oh, and I think it has around 80,000 miles on it.

Please help a worried Dad

My son is away at college about 100 miles away. He is leaving today for a long weekend break at his roommate's home about 4-1/2 hours away.

He called me and said that his car is making a...

Re: 2001 L300 Tranny Jerks

I have the same problem, only mine seems even MORE intermittent. Maybe once every few months the wrench comes on.

Saturn read the code and found the P1811, and Saturn diagnosed it as the Pressure...

Re: L series question

Surprisingly, the plug replacement is one of the easier repairs. Not nearly as hard as it looks.

Now, if you want a tough repair...no MAINTENANCE...let's talk about changing the timing belt at...

Re: Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Safety ?

Seriously? That would be a lot easier, if that's the case.

I notice a creaking sound when I get out of the car, and at low speeds such as going over a speed bump. I got under the car and lifted...

Re: Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Safety ?

Bob,

How did this go? I'm getting a creaking noise from one of the bushings. I looked at the Haynes Manual, and it "lost me" at removing the fuel tank. Nope. Not me.

Does anyone know what...

Re: 2002 L300 Oh crap...Flooring Gas = 20 mph??

Two things come to mind.

1. You'll need to get some kind of code off the computer(s) to narrow things down.

2. The only time I've ever had reduced power and no "reduced power" indicator light...
