Re: P0410 error code - HELP

If you have previously verified that you have vacuum at the diverter valve while the air pump is running, then yes, the diverter valve is not opening and must be replaced.

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

Next step is to disconnect the big black hose that goes from the air pump to the diverter valve at the valve. Do another cold start and check for air flow coming out of the hose. If there is flow,...

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

Remove the silver tube and do a cold start. Air flow out of the open end of the diverter valve should be strong. If it is not, either the air pump is weak or not running or the diverter valve is...

Re: Piston soak revisited: Methods and observations

When I did a Chemtool soak, one cylinder would not drain. I used engine compression to force the fluid past the rings by manually rotating the engine a bit. The process did indeed force the fluid...

Re: Unsafe feeling front end

Based on that alignment "report" you shared, that shop was clueless. As OldNuc stated, you have to align the rear first, before doing the front. Caster is not adjustable, but should be measured and...

Re: Unsafe feeling front end

Did you get a wheel alignment after all that front suspension work? If not, I'd start there.

Re: 2002 SL sputtering going up hills

Plenty of posts here on P0410, but know that the issues that can trigger the P0410 code do not affect how the car runs. Get your thermostat and ECTS sorted as suggested. 30 mpg highway is terrible...

Re: Shift bushing gone, perhaps?

Yes, that sure sounds like the bushing failed. Shifter just flops around while the transmission stays stuck in whichever gear it was in.

Saturnbushingman sells a good replacement online. It is...

Re: A/C Compressor Replacement Recommendations?

One more critical piece of data required: Is the radiator cooling fan blowing full blast when the a/c is turned on?

Static pressure suggests there is a reasonable amount of refrigerant in the...

Re: Evap vent solenoid P0446

PCM failures on these cars are very rare. Sounds like one check is "stuck" and preventing the others from completing. You might try clearing the computer and starting again. Most of the monitors...

Re: Evap vent solenoid P0446

Well, it worked for me, twice. Maybe I did it with the tank kept close to empty - can't recall exactly.

Re: Evap vent solenoid P0446

Yes, absolutely true. Pull the PCM-B fuse or use code reader to clear the computer and drive for a couple days keeping the tank above 3/4 full. Check your monitors until all are ready except EVAP. ...

Re: Evap vent solenoid P0446

If memory serves, the ground to the evap solenoid is only activated (to close the valve) while the PCM is running the evap system check. Other threads on this subject suggest that failure of the...

Re: new clutch checklist

When I retired my Saturn, I had 315,000 miles on the original clutch. Mostly Houston commuting. No slippage. I agree with others that your concern may be premature.

Re: 02 sensor

What you are describing is a way to trick the emission control system into thinking that a failing catalytic converter is still working. The rear O2 sensor is removed, screwed into a pair of...

Re: Car unreliable, sell or keep?

150 k miles is not a lot for an S Series. The advice above is good regarding rust, something we don't worry about where I live.

In my case, I scrapped my 2002 SC1 at 315 k miles because it was no...

Re: 95 randomly dies

Could be the crank position sensor also. These are known to fail hot and start working again when they cool off. You need to check for spark when it dies and won't restart. Of course, it will...

Re: Water pump recommendations

I used a Duralast pump which lasted longer than the original pump, and was still leak free when I put the car to rest.

Re: Secondary air pump at operating temp

30 - 60 seconds is the typical run time on cold start, so your 42 seconds sounds correct.

Re: 1999 SW2 Won't START 75,867 miles

Just for clarification, P0401 is EGR related. The secondary air injection code is P0410.

Re: Diverter Valve (P0410 !)

When my diverter valve failed, it was the actuator. Valve would get good vacuum on cold start, and the air pump ran fine, but the diverter valve would not open. I did disassemble mine and was able...

Re: How many miles left once Low Fuel light comes on?

I take a 400 mile trip quite often for work. My low fuel light would come on right at the end of the trip, and it always took between 10.0 and 10.3 gallons to fill at that point. Maybe 3rd gen got...

Re: Anyone in the Houston area have a decent front engine cradle/subframe for a 2002

If it is mine, it is straight and rust free. I would not use the control arms on it though. They are originals and worn out!

Re: Anyone in the Houston area have a decent front engine cradle/subframe for a 2002

You might try Charlies Auto Salvage on FM 2920 east of Tomball. That's where I left my worn out 2002 SC1 3 months ago.

Re: 3.5k rpm idle after TB replacement, settled down now

I had the same experience when I replaced my IAC years back. It takes a bit for the PCM to understand the new device, but once it does, idle will stay normal. Sounds like you have succeeded with...
