Use a blind stitch to do that repair, if it is on the seam. :D
Also use an upholstery or quilting thread with a curved needle if available.

After washing, soak the foam in a bucket of water with 1 or 2 cups of baking soda overnight. Rinse, squeeze out the water and let dry before reinstalling the silly thing. I did this a couple years...

I took the easier way out -

Since my forte is sewing, I just replaced the original velcro with an Industrial Strength version by gluing it in place since I was unable to run the kick panel...

My son's behavior is affected by foods so I am very careful what I feed my family. I hope this helps. :D
