Re: Belt Tensioner? AGAIN?????

Isn't a 778 belt the OEM stock? I realize 2mm isn't much difference, but it seems to matter with these beasts.

What brand belt are you using? The groove depth varys with different brands. I...

Re: TRS 2/TCC fuse blowing.

You won't get new solenoids, you will get used ones that have been checked the same as you can do in about 1/2 hr. More to the point, the problem is probably a short in the harness or connector. ...

Re: Overheating 99 SL2

Check the temps with live-data, and correlate/check that with a simple immersion (meat, candy) thermometer. The dash gauge is hardly a precision instrument, don't fret about what it reads.

If it...

Re: 02 SL2: No AC

DonP1, I suggest you start a new thread pertaining to your specific symptoms and steps/tests done so far. We have two "OPs" and set of problems jumbled in here (three, if you count my similar...

Re: 02 SL2: No AC

I sympathize with you. I have a similar-sounding A/C thread going and am struggling to get a handle on what the root problem is. The vapor refrigeration cycle is all a big balancing act, we know...

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor vs Sender?

The PCM controls the fan, using the ECT sensor input. That 1-wire "sender" is only for the dash gauge.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor vs Sender?

The "sensor" is the one you need. SMP #TX73 or TX73T

Re: NEED To Pass CA Smog, Please Help!

A new cat is probably the only thing you really need to do. My CA pre-inspection routine is to take compression, check/gap the plugs, check that IAT and ECT read reasonably, and make sure the cat is...

Re: need opinions on '94 A/C

I "misted" the condenser a lot with 70% isopropyl alcohol, it didn't change the low/high a bit. Still 30/340 psi at 2000 rpm. Ambient is now 83F at 25% RH. I did a crude test of temps on the...

Re: need opinions on '94 A/C

I wasn't clear about the ambient. The general environment temp during these tests was 70F. Those 88 and 101 temps were "underhood" temps, the environment of the compressor and hoses. I think that...

Re: need opinions on '94 A/C

OK, I have some readings now. Bottom line is that there are a couple of obvious leaks at the compressor in/out ports, not the shaft seal; and it doesn't cool all that good. I would like to explore...

Re: 02 SL2: No AC

Whatever you do, don't put in any stop-leak! That is a short-term gimmick that may temporarily get the system working, but will cause many problems in the future. Any actual repair, not just...

Re: Range switch faulty ?

Try adjusting it again before throwing another switch at it; adjustment is cheap and easy. Not starting except in P or N doesn't prove it is presently adjusted OK; the start interlock contacts are...

Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

OP, are you getting the drift? There is not supposed to be a "valve" there (at blue arrow) and if the tech insists otherwise, you should abandon that shop.

Others: is there supposed to be a...

Re: 1999 SL2 Crankcase valve (?)

It is already in place there in the picture you posted, above the oil fill cap in that picture. How about high-lighting the hose that is coming loose and posting a new picture? Honestly, it sounds...

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

Can you post a video that lets us hear this "spark knock"? Something is very screwy here. You have had a fairly wide variety of engine types that you think are knocking, yet none set trouble codes....

Re: Pinging / Spark Knock for Four Years on '99 SL

^^^ +1
The PCM should prevent spark knock in either of these cars. Use live-data to see if knock is even being detected and what fuel trims are, but it is hard to believe both cars have a similar...

Re: Question about adding r134a refridgerant

I tee the vacuum into the yellow line and pull a vacuum on everything (R134 tank valve closed, of course). Or, if I'm just adding to a low system, I crack the lines right down at the red/blue...

Re: need opinions on '94 A/C

An update/bump:

No sign of leak (UV inspection for dye) at the X block on firewall or at drier behind LF fender.

I pulled a vacuum, it dropped from 29+" Hg to 27.5" in 36 hours. This was on a...

Re: How to Test Coils?

I would use SMP (Standard Motor Products), but many here prefer getting used from a JY over anything new.

I wouldn't rush into changing the coils. Simple coils like those are very rugged,...

Re: 2002 sc2 leaking automatic transmission

Personally, I wouldn't weld the diff pin; I would put in the bigger spiral type spring pin. However, I can believe welding the diff pin can work in most (all?) failures of this type.

The welding...

Re: Steering Problems After Near Head On Collision

I doubt it is only going to need a "simple" alignment. It is likely that something has been bent or broken and needs to be repaired before an alignment can be successfully done.

Re: 2002 sc2 leaking automatic transmission

I sounds like it could be the "diff pin" has come loose; search on this forum and you will find many threads relating to that pin. It is a near-fatal condition for the trans, you will need ...

Re: Help Figure Out if Bad Head Gasket

180 psi is the official minimum, but most will be in the 200-220 range, even after 200K miles. Pay attention, too, to the difference between cylinders. Something like 210-210-180-210 would be above...
