Re: Sold my Saturn after 17 Years

Ironically, if you bought your Mirage at Mitsu/North, that used to be Saturn/North where I bought my wife's first Saturn...and if you bought your Mirage at Mitsu/West, that used to be Saturn/West,...

Re: 94 SW 2 wagon . Good deal?

Take some ramps with you (or a good floor jack and jack stands you trust) and examine the cradle and hard brake lines. If it runs good and is not eaten up with rust, that car is worth every bit of...

Re: Goodbye, '01 SL2 - vaya con dios

http://www.del-carusedautoparts.com/ on Harlem Road. It was cranberry red with dealer-applied silver pinstriping. Clearcoat on the hood was starting to go; otherwise, all body panels were in good...

Goodbye, '01 SL2 - vaya con dios

On 12/28/15, after 14.5 years and 148K miles, I dropped off our 2001 SL2 at the scrapyard. It had suddenly stopped shifting into reverse (despite my having installed a reman valve body not so long...

Re: New TPS - should the pintle be extended?

You are right - the pintle should be withdrawn. When you install the IAC valve and start the car for the first time, the idle will be around 2000 rpm and the PCM will tell the IAC to extend the...

Re: Extinct Car Day 2015 at Larz Anderson Auto Museum

A gathering of five S-series and three of them are wagons? How cool.

And right now, I'm geeking out b/c I had a red '86 Fiero SE V6 exactly like that one.

Glad you guys had a good time!

Re: Random questions

1) Nope. Gearshift in neutral, foot off the clutch for maximum throwout-bearing life. Learned that one the hard way on a Fiero years ago.

2) Never heard of such a thing.

3) Try draining...

Re: 103 torque Lug NUTZ...

"Jesus, take the wheel...no, not THAT wheel! The STEERING wheel!"

My Miata requires 76 ft/lbs, and I was rotating its tires one fall day, then I installed winter tires on the Saturn and forgot to...

Re: Gabriel Struts and Strut Mounts

Gabriel 142244. I got mine on a wholesaler closeout and it looks like RA has raised the price since then.

Re: Gabriel Struts and Strut Mounts

Mine have aged well. Still no creaks, clunks, or odd noises, and the "bobblehead" ride has smoothed out considerably. You bought the same Gabriels, right? How are yours holding up?

Re: Correct Stock Rims for 2001 SL2?

Yep. You have three choices:
15" alloys from an SC2, SL2, or SW2
15" steelies from an SC2, SL2, or SW2
14" steelies from an SC1, SL1, or SW1

They'll all fit. I went with 14's because I...

Re: Correct Stock Rims for 2001 SL2?

Any Saturn S-series wheels will fit your 2001 SL2. I run the factory 15x6 alloys all summer and 14x5 steelies from an SL1 in the winter.

Re: spark plug wires

+1. In addition to the affordable price, ease of installation, and long service life that Pitcher mentions, NAPA Premium plug wires are a tasteful navy blue that looks cool with your black valve...

Re: Thoughts please

Next time it's rattling, have a friend gently press on the leading edge of the hood and see if the rattle goes away. If it does, one or both of the rubber bumpers under the hood needs to be turned...

Re: 91 Miata wheels fit?

The bolt pattern is the same (4x100), but the Miata hub bore is only 54.1mm diameter, while the Saturn hub bore is 57.1mm. So the Miata wheels won't fit unless you "hog out" their center bore by an...

Re: Used brake lines: why not?

I figured you guys would take me to task for spending $1100 on this car, maybe deservedly. The thing is, I'm lucky enough to be at a point in life where I finally have more money than time. Between...

Re: Used brake lines: why not?

We ended up taking the car to a local shop that replaced both rear brake lines and the right front line with new stainless lines, and replaced both rear wheel cylinders and shoes.

Total bill was...

Re: Should I replace the alternator? (I'm going to be replacing my starter.)

I would NOT replace the alternator at this time for the following reasons:

1) The newer-year alternators with the internal fan are much more reliable than the older-year alternators. Of the four...

Re: The Arizona Hwy sniper suspect drives a Saturn S series

I always thought an SL2 would be a good getaway car - reasonably quick, yet completely anonymous.

It would be a lousy blockade runner, though. I once disabled my car by hitting a traffic cone...

Re: Engine BARELY running after vehicle was parked. Help

That one jumps out at me. Do you have a multimeter so you can verify that the alternator is putting out the proper voltage (usually a steady 14.3 - 14.8) when the engine is running? A bad...

Re: Used brake lines: why not?

Looks like I am going to have to address this sooner than I expected. Mom was out for a drive with my son yesterday and the pedal suddenly went soft on her. She had enough brake left to stop the...

Re: Automatic transmission acting wierd

I've had a Ken Partin valve body in my SL2 for about a year and a half now. It cured a harsh part-throttle downshift from 4th to 3rd (very different from your problem, I know).

I called Ken...

Re: Used brake lines: why not?

That is where hers are the worst, especially the line to the passenger rear. I can't figure why hers are so much worse than my '01 SL2 when both are Ohio cars and mine has more than twice the...
