Re: Noisy Mevotech Strut Mounts

Well, it's been a year and about 10K miles on the Mevotech strut mounts. These things are junk. One a hot day after being parked, the heat causes these things to bind and creak when turning.

Re: Noisy Mevotech Strut Mounts

HAHA! Yes, I wondered if I just needed a sexy muffler and sub-woofer so everything else vibrated louder, lol. It's silky smooth now, so I'm happy. It was so easy to pull these struts out and apart...

Re: squeaky strut mount

Hey no problem. I wonder if this is the infamous squeak induced by the strut mount rivets rubbing on the spring insulator. Any chance you can get some lubricant up there with a straw or something...

Re: squeaky strut mount

I just had this problem after installing new KYB struts and Mevotech strut mounts from Rock Auto. I managed to fix the problem. I'm copying and pasting my findings below:

I spent a few hours...

Re: Noisy Mevotech Strut Mounts

Well, I heard back from Zach in customer service at Rock Auto. I told them about my issue so they could keep an eye on this and maintain their good reputation. Very apologetic and offered a partial...

Re: Noisy Mevotech Strut Mounts

Oh man, you should return these if you can. I have no reason to believe the pair you get will be any better. Both of mine had bearings that would bind. You could feel it just by compressing them...

Noisy Mevotech Strut Mount Problem Solved

Problem Found: Crappy quality control of the strut mount bearings. I wouldn't recommend Mevotech strut mount kits. There are two more in stock at Rock Auto, and if weren't for my lack of time,...

Noisy Mevotech Strut Mounts

I spent a few hours last Friday putting new KYB struts into my SL. I also replaced the front strut mounts with Mevotech parts from Rock Auto. Each strut was done one at a time. Has anyone had...

Slipping Clutch Solved Thanks To You Guys

Proud owner of two Saturns. The 2002 SL started slipping the clutch last fall at 145K. Strange thing was it wouldn't happen cold. Figured oil contamination since I've got some leaks and couldn't...

Re: Torque converter lockup solenoid?

I obtained the code with my Auto Xray, but don't have it written down. I just remember it saying the TC lockup solenoid was stuck on. Even if the solenoid is electrically off, I was wondering if...

Re: Torque converter lockup solenoid?

The torque converter is locked up at highway speeds to increase efficiency. Yes, you'd think that one that's locked up would stall at a stop sign. I just got another tidbit of info from her:

Torque converter lockup solenoid?

I've got a friend with a 2002 L300 that's reporting a torque converter lockup solenoid being stuck on once in a while. Over 100K, no filter or fluid change since she's owned it. This car doesn't...

Re: 2002 SL2 high idle

Did you take some brake cleaner (with the little red tube) and douse the area around the intake manifold on the passenger side of the motor? I've got a 2002 SL that had the folded gasket, high idle...

Re: LED Headlight mod?

Very cool post and pictures on the Audi setup. Very neat technology that I wish I had the time to dabble more in. I'm sure there's some pricey software that these engineers have at their disposal...

Re: LED Headlight mod?

Funny, I stumbled on this thread by mistake as I was about to look up the diagram to eliminate the DRL's on my 2002 SL. I was very hot on LED lighting and actually built a prototype LED emitter...

Re: JUST GOT 54 MPG! Looking for more!

I can believe your tests could yield those results, however impractical. I've researched high MPG cars for about year (and much reading on this site) before picking up 2002 SL 5 sd, w/ 107K miles...

Re: how many miles do you have on your saturn?

I've got 107,000 and some change on the 2002 SL that I just got. I'm the second owner, just did my second fill-up and please as hell with its efficiency. I'd say I've got a 50/50 mix of...

Re: Coolant: Pink/Green/Distilled

OldNuc,

That article on coolants was fantastic. Thanks for posting it. I also did some research online over the week and was amazed at the science behind this. Since I don't have a problem with...

Re: Coolant: Pink/Green/Distilled

Thank you, and consider me converted. I wasn't aware of the minerals affecting the corrosion inhibiting properties of antifreeze. Been working with cast iron motors up to this point. I also didn't...

Coolant: Pink/Green/Distilled

Hello,

While changing the intake manifold gasket the other day, I decided to flush the system out since the drained coolant had a brown color. I realized later that I was probably dealing with...

Re: Intake Manifold Gasket?

Folded gasket. Wow, I didn't expect what I saw when I changed it. It even had a pretty good break above #3, but #1 was completely mangled. It appears that the gasket was obstructing flow into #1. ...

Re: How To Diagnose/Solve High Idle Issues

It's weird what can affect idle. I notice, even when in neutral the engine will idle high until I come to a complete stop. And when I had the wheels off the ground when changing my intake manifold...

Re: Help! ASAP!

I just dealt with battery cable bolts when replacing them on my daughter's SC2 so I could put in extended ones with studs to get power back to a subwoofer amplifier. The molded plastic that...

Re: Seized Engine and MMO

I'm rather ignorant when it comes to observing torque specs, but in my 20 years of oil changes I haven't had a problem when using about 50% of hand-tightening force with a lubricated gasket. It...

Thanks for your help OldNuc, Squareback. It may have been #1 with the trouble. You know how it is when you have a scanner, all your friends want you to explain their SES light. I recently scanned...
