Fiesta check in

Former Astra owner here, just thought I'd touch base again. I did love my Astra (I sold it with 288,000km on the clock, all put there by me) but it reached the end of life for me when there was a...

End of an era

So, I got a deal on a second Fiesta that was just too good to pass up, so my time with my Astra is at an end. It's been an amazing car for me. It now has 292,000km on it. I've had it since new and...

Re: Who's put the most miles on thier 08' Astra??

Thought I'd revive this. My Astra's now at 289,742km! It's definitely getting less use now, I got a new car and my wife's driving the Astra (a much shorter commute). It's still ticking along quite...

Re: Dead battery..how long has yours lasted?

Had an oil change done a couple of weeks ago at a garage that I definitely trust, they tested the battery and told me it's time to replace. I figure, it's 7 years old and the car has 285,000km on...

Re: High mileage check-in

As to the hub assembly, I don't know just how long I'll end up keeping this thing, haven't really decided yet. I know that the sensor can cause some weird behaviour, I actually had some of that very...

High mileage check-in

So, I just thought I'd touch base with folks here. My 2008 xe 5 door now has 283000km on it. I've had it since new and it's still ticking along pretty well. Handling is still at least as good as...

Re: Speedometer and Tach needle drop and all lights come on

Interestingly, past the first couple of times it happened to me (5 years ago now!), it never happened again. I can't chalk it up to a bad battery though, believe it or not, I'm still on the...

Re: Who's put the most miles on thier 08' Astra??

I'm at 255k km on my Astra. Had the timing belt done for the second time (thanks to those that suggest Rock Auto - saved nearly $400 Canadian getting the parts there over what they were locally!),...

Re: Timing Belt service

As an update.... :( I got a call from Service at Saab indicating that they had misquoted me on the price of getting the timing belt done. It was actually bizarre how it played out. Service manager...

Re: Timing Belt service

Ah! See, I misunderstood that. That was for the parts and labour for both things.

That said the Saab dealer in Kitchener/Waterloo gave me a quote of $530ish (don't remember the exact number),...

Re: Timing Belt service

Just thought I'd post that they maybe decided after doing yours that they should be charging more. I just got off the phone with the service department and they quoted me $830 BEFORE taxes for JUST...

Re: So.. how reliable is the 2008/09 Saturn Astra?

Forgot that one, I also had the flexpipe done, a local muffler place did it for not too much money (don't remember how much exactly, but I recall it being substantially less than the dealership.)

Re: How about gas mileage?

Actually, I don't explicitly drive for mileage either. I do have the vast majority of my driving on the highway, but at speeds that are far from optimal (I drive 117km/h always on the highway). I...

Re: How about gas mileage?

Wow, I'm not sure how you're driving your Astra to achieve that sort of mileage. I've got 245,000km on mine and it's achieved over its life 7.1l/100km. This weekend I was driving secondary roads at...

Re: So.. how reliable is the 2008/09 Saturn Astra?

Original owner of a 2008 here. I suspect I'm at or near the top of miles, I've got 245,000km on it as of a couple of days ago :)

Generally speaking I'm pretty impressed with no signficant...

Re: ABS and Traction Control Trouble Lights

Further to this, I just kept driving it regardless of the problem and after about 3000km, it went away. About 2000km later, back again, 3000km, gone again. I've decided at this point, I couldn't be...

Re: Transmission flush

Not saying whether it's appropriate or not, but mine's got over 238,000km and it's never been done >.<

And... I have no issues (knock on wood)

Re: How about gas mileage?

While I don't deny that both of those cars are almost certainly going to get better mileage than my Astra, I'd be willing to bet their "highway" mileage WASN'T doing 100+km/h.

My car's mileage...

Re: How about gas mileage?

There's a huge difference seasonally with my car. I put on LOTS of clicks (I just rolled 238,000 this morning on my way to work). In the summer time I get about 7.1ish l/100km in the winter, it's...

Re: Button meanings

I don't know what all of them are for, but "AS" I always sort of think of as "All Scan". It's a GREAT button! Push and hold until the radio starts scanning, what it does is programs the 9 strongest...

Re: Front Flex Pipe, Gasket & possible 02 Sensor

Mine first became apparent by the noise, just louder exhaust, but if memory serves correctly, I believe I got a check engine light as well.

I don't honestly recall when it happened, I'd guess...

Re: Timing Belt service

I'm going to bump this up again and ask the same question. Did you actually get this service done for this price?

If you did, it's totally worth my time to actually travel there and get it done. ...

Re: Front Flex Pipe, Gasket & possible 02 Sensor

At the suggestion of some of the people on here, when my flex pipe went (seems like it does for everyone?), I took it to a local muffler place and it was done for under $100 including tax and labour.
