Re: The MPG cost of running the AC

AC brought me down from 38-40mpg on a straight highway run to around 34-36mpg. Totally worth it.

Re: Temperature differential with A/C on

After about 200,000 miles of use in the desert, my compressor on my SL2 was very tired. I'd get good cooling on the highway, but very little at idle.

107 is just hot. Even the best of AC...

Re: Transmission Fluid Change?

Absolutely do a fluid change.

Wix/NAPA filters worked fine for me. I changed my fluid every 10k miles and the filter every 30k. My auto tranny worked like factory new at 244k miles when I gave...

Re: Input Shaft Nut

I wouldn't be opposed to making a small run of these given enough demand. We've all discussed this before and there was no interest to this point.

Re: Broken retainer clip...

Some model years did not have these. Just push the wires on and move on with life.

Re: New car in the fold - our new "s-series" on ease of maintenance

I've found that the space in engine bays of most modern cars is quite lacking. Not so on the Soul:

Thumbs Up New car in the fold - our new "s-series" on ease of maintenance

I know there is an ongoing thread about what the next "S-Series" is as far as low cost of ownership and ease of DIY repair. I think I've found mine.

It's new to the household and replaces my...

Re: Frozen fasteners at exhaust pipe flange gasket

Were I doing the job, These are what I would use:

316 SS is way better for corrosion resistance than...

Re: Frozen fasteners at exhaust pipe flange gasket

Yes...I got a samsung phone that autocorrects REAL FREAKING WORDS to other real words. Tie to the, etc, etc. Super frustrating.

Re: Frozen fasteners at exhaust pipe flange gasket

If I recall correctly, that connection consists of 3 studs with nuts. Yours are rusted away beyond recognition.

You're probably going to be looking at some cutting and drilling to remove those....

Re: Cd changer

I have had one of those units sitting around since 2009 when I pulled it for more trunk space. It was super cool in 2005 :D

Did you get all the cables connected? Granted it's been a while since I did a starter, but IIRC the alternator main power cable connects to the starter. So if that wasn't connected you'd get the...

Re: "Reverse" EGR Adapter in pre-production! (adapts a vacuum EGR to an Electronic he

Thanks! I sold 3 to a forum member, but still have a few available.

I like making Saturn parts, and as long as I can break even I'll keep making them.

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

But the amount of time it would take to pack it and figure out the hassle of shipping it would not be worth the proceeds of $50. If one of you guys from the rust belt are ever out here, by all means...

Re: The 98 SW2 is Totaled

I have a 100% rust free subframe in my yard...it'll probably end up getting recycled with a load of steel at some point.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever even seen rust on an S-Series...

Re: Longer transmission filter...?

There is some room...but I'm not sure a longer filter would really offer any advantage. When I owned my SL2, I always changed my transmission fluid every 10-15k miles and my filter at 30k.

The...

Re: Would you change your 2001 SL1 for 2007 Jaguar S-Type?

I have a Volvo from the time period during which Ford owned the company. It has been great so far.

But, I wouldn't buy a Jaguar.

Re: Radio host Art Bell passed away yesterday.

A little OT never hurt anyone, these forums are rather slow...posts used to get buried to the second page after several hours a few years back.

Yep -- It was a sad day when he stopped doing weekends on C2C and then when he came back to Sirius, I was elated. I got a subscription and loved listening and would often plan my drives to be able to...

Sad Radio host Art Bell passed away yesterday.

I know this is not directly Saturn related, but I know I spent many hours listening to the man on late night/early morning drives. So memories of Art's show are intertwined with memories of driving...

Re: "Reverse" EGR Adapter in pre-production! (adapts a vacuum EGR to an Electronic he

Yep, someone here had the idea and I executed it. It's a good thing to keep on hand if you own a 1st gen car.
